Today's businesses operate in a highly challenging environment characterized by rapid technological change, constant innovation pressure, and increasing global competitive pressure. On one side, technologies like AI and cloud computing provide the basis to explore and develop new ideas for internal tools, digital products and services, and even entire business models in a fast and scalable way. On the other side, these technologies also lead in combination with accelerating market dynamics and shifting (customer) expectations to ever shorter project cycles. At the same time, however, companies and their development departments also need to carefully manage their limited capacities, tight budgets, and demanding timelines when deciding which ideas to implement, ensuring that they reach a truly informed go/no-go decision.

Against this backdrop, the overarching goal of the course “Rapid IT Prototyping in Cloud Environments” is to enable students to develop an idea into a professional business concept and a management-ready presentation, including a functional, cloud-based prototype for management approval, in a short period of time. Accordingly, the course bridges the gap between idea/innovation and prototype implementation, combining entrepreneurial thinking and digital product management with IT and cloud computing expertise.
