Overview of institutes for research and technology transfer
Materials Resource Management (MRM)
An innovative research and teaching area for the "Materials Resource Management" (MRM) specialization is currently being built in the south of the Augsburg University campus. Innovative strategies for efficient use of resources, materials and products will be developed in the future in the research building, designed as "Collaboratorium". The four-story, square building with an area of over 11,000 m² integrates diverse laboratories, offices and seminar rooms as well as a test hall.
Funded by the Free State of Bavaria, it combines the expertise of the HSA_comp research group of the Faculty of Mechanical and Process Engineering and HSA_innos of the Faculty of Computer Science at the Technical University of Applied Sciences Augsburg with the "Materials & Resources" and "Production & Software" fields of competence of the University of Augsburg. Its research focuses on "Materials Engineering", "Resource Strategy and Management", "Software & Systems Engineering", "Mechatronics", "Control Engineering", "Production Informatics" as well as "Organic Computing".
Due to its direct proximity to the Technology Center Augsburg (TZA), the research buildings of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft (FhG) and the German Aerospace Center (DLR), networking of university and non-university research institutes is also strengthened.
Technology Transfer Center Flexible Automation in Nördlingen
The Technology Transfer Center for Flexible Automation and Cooperative Robotics (TTZ) is a research and transfer institute of the Technical University of Applied Sciences Augsburg in the Technology Center West Bavaria (TCW) in Nördlingen. The objective of the TTZ is to prepare the industry in the North Swabia economic region, which is made up primarily of SMEs, for the challenges of Industry 4.0 and support it on the journey in the direction of Production 2020.
The TTZ has two fully equipped research laboratories as well as a usage space in the robotics hall of the TCW. At the heart of the robotics hall is a modular production line consisting of four individual modules with latest-generation Kuka robots. In addition, two Automatic Guided Vehicles (AGVs) from the company Grenzebach Maschinenbau GmbH as well as a portal unit with open control environment from Bosch Rexroth are available to the involved scientists and research partners for the purposes of application-oriented research.
Donau-Ries University Center (HSZDR)
As a branch of the Technical University of Applied Sciences Augsburg, the Donau-Ries University Center in the Technology Centrum West Bavaria (TCW) in Nördlingen combines practice-oriented teaching and academic training with application-related research. This makes an active contribution to securing skilled labor and supporting regional companies.
The main objective is to establish a powerful technology transfer network and to expand the research and development capacity in direct proximity to the partner companies in North Swabian. The study and transfer projects focus on process development for Industry 4.0, human-robot collaboration, image-guided robotics and automation for production.
The "Digital and Regional" study model, unique in the North Swabia economic region, is a joint project of the Augsburg, Kempten and Neu-Ulm universities of applied sciences and is also represented at the Donau-Ries University Center with the Systems Engineering Bachelor program.

Technology Transfer Center Data Analytics in Donauwörth
The Technical University of Applied Sciences Augsburg received approximately six million euros in funding from the Bavarian Ministry of Science to set up and establish a Technology Transfer Center (TTZ) in Donauwörth with a focus on "Data Analytics". The new TTZ commenced operation in the fall of 2020 and focuses on the analysis and evaluation of large volumes of data. The research results are intended to provide new inspiration for digital business models.
