The Business Informatics division of Fraunhofer FIT is distinguished by its techno-economic perspective on issues related to digitalization, with a strong focus on business administration. The division develops innovative solutions to specific problems that consistently integrate all levels of enterprise architecture. It also provides impetus for digitalization strategies and transformative change processes within companies. Its distinctive features include expertise at the intersection of financial management, information management, and business informatics, as well as the ability to combine methodological expertise at the highest scientific level with a customer-, goal-, and solution-oriented approach.
The Business Informatics Division of Fraunhofer FIT, together with the Process Mining Research Group at Fraunhofer FIT, has established the Center for Process Intelligence (CPI). The economic perspective of the Value-Oriented Process Management research group led by Prof. Kratsch—which is integrated into the Business Informatics Division—is combined with the strong technical expertise of the Process Mining research group, which works closely with Prof. Wil van der Aalst, considered the founder of process mining. This synergy enables the CPI to take a holistic approach to evaluating topics related to data-driven process management. As a result, the CPI can support companies from their initial attempts to apply process mining, through broader implementation, all the way to enterprise-wide scaling. In addition, the CPI helps companies translate analysis results into process improvements, for example through the targeted use of automation technologies (e.g., Robotic Process Automation).
The FIM Research Institute for Information Management is an internationally recognized inter-university research network in the field of business informatics, sponsored by the University of Bayreuth and the Technical University of Applied Sciences Augsburg. The members of the research institute strive for a world in which digitalization is used responsibly for the benefit of individuals, the economy, and society. credium focuses on digital real estate analysis for financial service providers and the sustainability sector using AI. Based on an address, we provide a wide range of real estate characteristics, such as building geometry and living space. To do this, we analyze 3D building models and satellite photos, among other data, in the background. This is based on data from state surveying agencies, which may be used commercially under open data licenses and is available throughout Europe. In the medium term, we will use this data to provide an easily analyzable representation of urban landscapes worldwide. Beyond individual buildings, entire streets or neighborhoods can then be analyzed. Since credium also tracks developments over time, changes in building structure can be captured on a large scale. This is relevant, for example, for sustainability analyses or urban planning.
