The bachelor program Medical Technology (BEng) connects engineering know-how with medical basics and applications and prepares you for developing innovative technical solutions for diagnostics, therapy and rehabilitation.

During your studies you will learn about modern technology like medical metrology, medical devices and applications, embedded systems as well as artificial intelligence. This will be supplemented by medical contents such as anatomy, physiology and biochemistry as well as a sound understanding of regulatory requirements and standards.

A special focus will be on practical relevance: Lab courses, excercise courses and a continuous technical practical project will allow you to apply your knowledge early on. The practical semester allows for valuable insights into corporations, clinics or research establishments.

Starting from the specialisation phase, you will be able to set an individual focus:

• development, optimization and application of medical-technical systems and devices
• researching, interpreting and using biosignals
• assistance systems and robotics to support patients, remove restrictions and strengthen skilled workers

Topics like artificial intelligence, energy efficiency and sustainability in medical engineering are considered and applied throughout the degree program.

Most students will work on the bachelor’s thesis with a practice partner. This will prepare you ideally for a successful career entry in medical engineering or a Master's program.

A bachelor’s degree in medical engineering qualifies you splendidly for a demanding and meaningful professional field at the interface of technology, medicine and society.

Graduates work where technical innovations improve health care: from developing modern medical devices to their safe use in everyday clinical practice

Typical fields are:

• Sensors, measurement and biosignal processing for diagnostics and monitoring
• Artificial intelligence and data analysis in medical applications
• Developing and designing medical-technical devices and systems
• Software and system development, e.g. for medical devices or digital health applications
• Quality management, regulatory affairs and approval of medical devices
• Application, service and sales engineering in a clinical environment
• Research and development in companies, institutes or universities

Furthermore, the Bachelor’s degree will allow you access to a Master's program in e.g. medical engineering, biomedical engineering or similar disciplines.

The faculty of electrical engineering supports its students to spend some time in another country. Students may choose to study a semester at another university, complete a project or their industrial internship in a foreign country or go abroad for their final thesis.

There is a so-called International Faculty Coordinator as a contact person at the faculty if you have any questions regarding the planning or realisation of your stay abroad. The Centre for Languages and Intercultural Communication (Zentrum für Sprachen und interkulturelle Kommunikation, ZSI) offers cross-faculty advice and support.
