Examinations

If the specific exam date falls during the maternity leave period, you are subject to special protection and do not have to attend this exam or are not allowed to take the exam.

However, you can submit a waiver, which will allow you to take the exam. A form is available for this purpose (see the homepage "Important Documents for Download for Pregnant Students"), which you must complete and submit. You will then be permitted to take the exam.

For examination dates that do not fall within the maternity protection period, the general regulations apply.

leave of absence

Students who are pregnant or have a child to raise can apply for a leave of absence from their studies during pregnancy (one semester) or during parental leave (six semesters) upon request (available on the Student Services website). Please also remember to apply for an extension for any re-examinations during the leave of absence.

Application forms are also available at the Student Office.

The deadline for applications in the summer semester is February 10th, and the deadline for applications in the winter semester is July 18th.

As a rule, leave of absence is not granted retroactively. Leave of absence during the first semester is only granted in exceptional cases.

Important! Obligation to provide feedback!

Even during the semester break, you are required to re-register and pay the following fees:

  • Student union contribution
  • Semester ticket
  • Administrative cost contribution

and proof of existing health insurance. Further information and contact details can be found at the Student Office of Augsburg University of Applied Sciences.

Examinations during the semester break

During parental leave, you can submit proof of academic achievement and take exams. This also applies to re-examinations. If you are unable to register for exams online, please contact the Examinations Office so that the registration ban can be lifted if necessary.

If you have already registered for an exam before your pregnancy is confirmed, you have the option to withdraw from the exam. To do so, please contact the Examinations Office and provide a corresponding medical certificate.

Incapacity to take the exam can also be claimed with such a certificate if no leave of absence has yet been applied for but complications arise during the pregnancy.

Part-time internship

Under certain conditions, you have the option of completing your mandatory internship part-time. This means that, after consultation with the company, you can reduce your weekly working hours to up to 50% and, in exchange, extend the duration of the internship. The internship may not exceed one semester in total.

If you are seeking a part-time internship due to childcare obligations, your birth certificate is sufficient as proof. If you are caring for a relative, please provide a confirmation from your family doctor that you are involved in the care and/or a severely disabled person's ID card for the person you are caring for.

Please note! You must obtain prior approval from the Examination Office for this.

Upon request, the Family-Friendly University's coordination office will provide you with an overview of companies that offer part-time internships based on the intern's personal suitability.
