Please note: our campus licence has been cancelled. Since January 2018 you can use ScienceDirect as a research tool, but generally don't have full-text access for free (only 250 publications are open-access). You can order print copies of articles via interlibrary loan - for members of the University of Applied Sciences Augsburg free of charge. Please contact us for further information.
Why has the licence been cancelled?
In Germany, the collaboration project "DEAL" (https://www.projekt-deal.de/) has been founded. Its aim is to get nationwide licence agreements with publishers of important scientific journals. During negotiations with Elsevier, all Bavarian and almost all German universities terminated their single licence agreements by the end of 2017, hoping to get better financial conditions and support open-access options with a nationwide licence agreement. Over the years, the costs for E-journal had increased rapidly - they are not tolerable anymore for smaller institutions.
Negotiations with Elsevier hadn't been successful and were abandoned in July 2018 (HRK-Pressemitteilung).
