Getting Started: A Guide for New Students

A warm welcome to the Faculty of Computer Science!

We are delighted to welcome you to the Technical University of Applied Sciences Augsburg and wish you a successful start to your studies.

Starting college is exciting—and sometimes comes with a lot of questions. To help you get off to a good start at THA, you’ll find all the important information here about the orientation and information sessions for first-semester students. Take this opportunity to get to know your fellow students, get answers to your initial questions, and prepare yourself as best as possible for the start of your studies.

After enrollment

Request a user ID

Your user ID (RZ ID) is your personal access key to nearly all of THA’s IT services. It is required to log in to central university services such as email, Moodle, Wi-Fi, the HIS online portal, computer workstations, and other digital services, and you should apply for it immediately after enrollment.

Find out about events before and at the start of the academic year

The THA’s faculties offer various programs for incoming students and bridge courses even before the semester begins. There is also a THA First-Semester Day featuring introductory events organized by the university and the faculties. You can find information about this and other events further down on this page.

Beginning of studies

Activate your Campus Card

The Augsburg Campus Card is the official student ID card of the Technical University of Applied Sciences Augsburg and serves as a multifunctional chip card. The Campus Card must be validated before its first use and after each successful registration renewal. During this process, the current validity period is printed on the card and stored in the chip. Without a valid validation, the Campus Card is not valid as a semester pass.

Sign up for our email list

Through our email distribution lists, you’ll receive the latest information about your studies and your degree program. Please subscribe to the appropriate distribution list.

You can find more information about the faculty’s email distribution lists on the THA intranet.

Get to know the THA's digital study tools

During your studies, you'll need various digital learning tools. These include Outlook Online, Zoom, and Moodle. Get familiar with them right at the start of the semester.

Install the THA Campus App

The app brings together class schedules, grades, the cafeteria, campus maps, and other university-related information.

Take advantage of the services offered by other THA facilities

The library, the student council, the Central Student Advising Office and the Center for Teaching and Media (DMZ) offer introductory sessions for first-semester students on specific topics. You can find more information about these sessions below in the related links.

Preparing for Studies

The Faculty of Computer Science offers several introductory events for first-semester students to help them get started. These events complement one another and provide important information and guidance for a successful start to your studies.
