FAQs Master Studies
Dear Applicant
Please read our Application Information Booklet carefully. If you have any remaining queries regarding the Master's programs in Electrical Engineering or Mechatronic Engineering, please refer to our Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) below. We kindly ask for your understanding that we cannot answer emails concerning queries that have been answered in our Application Information Booklet or FAQs. Furthermore, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering can only advise on questions regarding the course content. All other issues lie in the responsibility of our Student Affairs Office (i.e. regarding the application process, admissions procedure etc.) respectively our International Office (on queries concerning student life). Many thanks for your understanding.
Further FAQs regarding the Application Process can be found at the following link.
Please refer to this section, if your query relates to ...
English Language
Please note that for all non-native speakers, we do require proof of English language proficiency in form of one of the certificates stated in our Application Information booklet. Unfortunately, we cannot accept university statements as proof of English language proficiency. Please refer to our Application Information booklet for further details about accepted English language tests and scores required.
Exceptions:
- THA bachelor’s degree graduates who completed their studies under the old curriculum regulations ET, ME, and TI (2018 for ET and ME, and 2016 for TI) are not required to take a language test due to the mandatory course in Technical English.
- A German high school diploma (e.g., Abitur, Fachabitur) is accepted as proof of English proficiency if the diploma explicitly confirms level B2 (according to the CEFR).
Aptitude Test
Applicants are currently required to submit a motivation letter with their application. Further information can be found in our Application Information Booklet.
Eligibility
Please note that we are not making any advance statements on admission without having received a formal application through our online application portal. The very purpose of the VPD is a reliable conversion of a foreign GPA into the German grading scale and an equivalence assessment of the foreign Bachelor’s degree. Therefore, a VPD issued specifically for study at Augsburg TUAS is an essential part of your application and for admission.
As per paragraph 3(1) of our Study and Examination regulations, "the qualification requirement for admission to the Electrical Engineering master's program is a university degree from a German university with an above-average grade (overall examination grade of 2.69 or better) with at least 210 credit points (CP) according to the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) in one of the degree programs Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, Mechatronics or Computer Engineering or an equivalent degree from a German or foreign university". Please note that applicants with foreign degrees must submit a VDP from uni-assist. For further information, please refer to our Application Information booklet.
Application Documents
Please refer to our Application Information Booklet where you will find step-by-step guidance on the application procedure.
Please submit your language certificate directly to us, together with your online application.
Regarding your university qualification, we only require the degree certificate as well as the final transcript and, if available, the diploma supplement.
No, because they are irrelevant for the decision about admission. These documents only enlarge your application file unnecessarily and may result in a longer review process.
You do not need to provide us with an ECTS conversion formula if your university cannot provide this themselves. However, please note that we require a VPD from uni-assist to evaluate your application.
The "examinations to be credited" section is only relevant for Home students who would like to get credits from a previous study program transferred/accredited to a new study program.
We are aware that de-registration certificates do not exist in every country, but for our administrative purposes it would be helpful if your former institution/university could provide a letter to confirm that you are no longer enrolled.
We can confirm that for the Master's programs we require both, the VPD from uni-assist as well as the submission of your application through our application portal (including the submission of your VPD).
Students who have not yet received their final certificate, can apply with their current transcript of records and would be expected to submit their final documents as soon as they are available. In such a case the admission offer remains conditional and failure to submit the final degree certificate and transcript of records by the deadline, set in the letter of admission, will invalidate the admission offer.
You do not need a translation for English documents, but we would still require certified copies.
If there isn't a separate upload section for university certificates, please upload all relevant certificates in the "university entrance qualification" area. Otherwise, the VPD, university certificate and transcript should be uploaded in the area for Bachelor degree certificates.
From the winter semester 2023/24 onwards, the application process at Augsburg University of Applied Sciences is completely digital. The application form is filled out and submitted online and the required documents are uploaded in the online application portal. Please note that all application documents must be uploaded by the application deadline! It is not necessary to send the application by post!
VPD/uni-assist
Please request a VPD for our Master’s program/institution as the equivalence check, conducted by uni-assist, is program-specific. With a VPD, issued for another university, we are unlikely to receive all required information to assess and confirm eligibility for our Master’s program.
Letter of Motivation
The submission of a personal statement should take the following aspects into account (as per Annex A.5 of the Study and examination regulations for the Electrical Engineering master program at the Technical University of Applied Sciences Augsburg dated 15 October 2024):
- Motivation for studying the master program "Electrical Engineering"
- Reasons for choosing to study in Augsburg or Germany
- Description of existing and new competences and skills to be acquired in the Master's degree program
You can then upload your letter of motivation in the "other documents/evidence" section of our application portal.
Application Results
For all administrative queries (i.e. issuing of an official letter of admission, how the fee should be paid, etc.), please contact the Student Affairs Office (studienangelegenheiten@tha.de) as this is the only department that is able to help. Please note that the Faculty of Electrical Engineering is unable to answer any administrative queries nor legally allowed to produce and provide written confirmation letters or other documentation.
The application review will start following the application deadline and we expect results to be communicated approx. 3 weeks later.
Our Students' Affairs Office handles the entire enrolment process. We kindly ask for your patience and understanding that - due to the high number of applicants - it may take some time to receive the official admission letter, which is relevant for your visa application. Any additional documents (beyond the admission letter, i.e. enrolment certificates etc.) will be sent out following the manual enrolment at Augsburg TUAS.
Please be aware that the Faculty of Electrical Engineering is legally not allowed to issue any confirmations within the application and admissions process. The entire process is handled by the university’s student office and, due to the high number of applications during the application period, we kindly ask for your understanding that the processing of applications and documents may take some time. Please note that you do not require your enrolment certificate for your initial visa application - the university’s admissions letter is sufficient as it includes all relevant information.
An offer for admission is valid for one year which means that you can start your studies up to 2 semesters later – e.g. if you need to submit missing documents, experience delays in your visa application. Please note that you will have to formally re-apply. However, if you upload your existing offer letter (and missing documents, i.e. your VDP from uni-assist, proof of English language proficiency etc.) you will receive another admissions letter.
Post-Qualification
Students with conditional enrolment must provide proof of the missing competences within the first year after enrolment by means of subsequent qualification to the extent of the required credit points. In the post-qualification, competences must be acquired that were not part of the undergraduate degree program. If practical skills are missing, the post-qualification must be achieved by completing a relevant practical activity that corresponds in type (and scope) to a practical semester of the degree program in question. You will receive a list of relevant courses to complete the missing credits.
