Frequently Asked Questions

Electrical Engineering (MEng)

Dear Applicant

Please read our Application Information booklet carefully. If you have any remaining queries regarding the Master's program in Electrical Engineering, please refer to our Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) below. We kindly ask for your understanding that we cannot answer emails concerning queries that have been answered in our Application Information booklet or FAQs. Furthermore, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering can only advise on questions regarding the course content. All other issues lie in the responsibility of our Student Office ([Bitte aktivieren Sie Javascript], i.e. regarding the application process, admissions procedure etc.) respectively our International Office (on queries concerning student life). Many thanks for your understanding.

Further FAQs regarding the Application Process can be found at the following link.

English Language

I completed my entire Bachelor's degree in English and have an official English proficiency statement/Medium of Instruction (MOI) certificate from my university. Would this document be sufficient to meet the English language requirement for admission?

Please note that for all non-native speakers, we do require proof of English language proficiency in form of one of the certificates stated in our Application Information booklet. Unfortunately, we cannot accept university statements as proof of English language proficiency. Please refer to our Application Information booklet for further details about accepted English language tests and scores required.

Aptitude Test

Could you provide me with details regarding the aptitude test for your Master’s program, including its format, topics covered, and any preparation guideline?

Applicants are currently not required to take part in an aptitude test. If a test would be required, you will be informed following the review of your application.

Application Documents

Do I have to submit my language certificate to uni-assist?

No, please submit your language certificate directly to us, together with your online application.

Should I upload an official program description document from my university, which includes details such as the course name, objectives, content, lecture and lab hours, and credit hours?

Regarding your university qualification, we only require the degree certificate as well as the final transcript and, if available, the diploma supplement.

Should I upload documents such as certificates of employment during my studies or as an engineer after having graduated or recommendation letters from university professors or employers?

No, because they are irrelevant for the decision about admission. These documents only enlarge your application file unnecessarily and may result in a longer review process.

Is it mandatory to calculate the ECTS myself or provide a conversion formula?

You do not need to provide us with an ECTS conversion formula if your university cannot provide this themselves. However, please note that we require a VPD from uni-assist to evaluate your application.

As a non-EU applicant with a foreign Bachelor’s degree, am I required to upload anything in the application portal’s section “Examinations to be credited”?

The "examinations to be credited" section is only relevant for Home students who would like to get credits from a previous study program transferred/accredited to a new study program.

Since I have already graduated and am not currently enrolled in any study program, do I need to submit a document in the university application portal’s section “certificate of enrolment or de-registration”?

We are aware that de-registration certificates do not exist in every country, but for our administrative purposes it would be helpful if your former institution/university could provide a letter to confirm that you are no longer enrolled.

To apply for your Master’s program, should I send my application only through uni- assist or should I get the VPD from uni-assist and submit my application through the application portal?

We can confirm that for the MEE program we require both, the VPD from uni-assist as well as the submission of your application through our application portal (including the submission of your VPD).

I have not yet received my degree certificate. So, would it be sufficient to submit the transcript of records with my current ECTS?

Students who have not yet received their final certificate, can apply with their current transcript of records and would be expected to submit their final documents as soon as they are available. In such a case the admission offer remains conditional and failure to submit the final degree certificate and transcript of records by the deadline, set in the letter of admission, will invalidate the admission offer.

All my documents are already released in English with my university’s stamp as official documentation. So, do I need to further authenticate them from an EU office? And do I need to translate them?

You do not need a translation for English documents, but we would still require certified copies.

In the "University entrance qualification upload" field, should I upload only the VPD from uni-assist? Or should I also include other documents such as my school leaving certificate, Bachelor’s degree certificate, and transcript of records?

If there isn't a separate upload section for university certificates, please upload all relevant certificates in the "university entrance qualification" area. Otherwise, the VPD, university certificate and transcript should be uploaded in the area for Bachelor degree certificates.

Do I need to post a "printed out application form” to Augsburg TUAS?

From the winter semester 2023/24 onwards, the application process at Augsburg University of Applied Sciences is completely digital. The application form is filled out and submitted online and the required documents are uploaded in the online application portal. Please note that all application documents must be uploaded by the application deadline! It is not necessary to send the application by post!

VDP/uni-assist

If I have previously obtained a Preliminary Review Documentation (VPD) from uni-assist for an application to another German university, would this existing VPD be acceptable for my application to Augsburg TUAS, or do I need to request a new one specifically for your university?

Please request a VDP for our Master’s program/institution as the equivalence check, conducted by uni-assist, is program-specific. With a VPD, issued for another university, we are unlikely to receive all required information to assess and confirm eligibility for our Master’s program.

I have received a conditional admission offer, with the condition being the submission of a VPD from uni-assist. Does it matter which grade point average (GPA) the VPD shows?

Yes, because the purpose of a VPD is the calculation of the GPA by uni-assist. If it shows a GPA beyond the threshold of 2.69, the conditional admission offer becomes invalid. This is also the case if the GPA is 2.7, because the threshold of 2.69 is explicitly stated in our admission regulations. Furthermore, as the result is truncated to one decimal place, 2.7 could actually mean 2.79.

Letter of Motivation

The letter of motivation is listed as one of the required documents. Are there any specific guidelines or requirements I should follow when writing it? Also, I did not find a specific field for uploading it in the application portal. Should I upload it under the "Other documents/ evidence" section?

The submission of a personal statement should take the following aspects into account (as per Annex A.5 of the Study and examination regulations for the Electrical Engineering master program at the Technical University of Applied Sciences Augsburg dated 15 October 2024):

  • Motivation for studying the master program "Electrical Engineering"
  • Reasons for choosing to study in Augsburg or Germany
  • Description of existing and new competences and skills to be acquired in the Master's degree program

You can then upload your letter of motivation in the "other documents/evidence" section of our application portal.

Application Results

Whom should I contact if I have a question concerning the state of my application?

For all administrative queries (i.e. issuing of an official letter of admission, how the fee should be paid, etc.), please contact he students’ office ([Bitte aktivieren Sie Javascript]) as this is the only department that is able to help. Please note that the Faculty of Electrical Engineering is unable to answer any administrative queries nor legally allowed to produce and provide written confirmation letters or other documentation.

Could you please let me know approximately when the application results are expected to be announced? Will the submitted documents be processed before the application deadline, or will the review process begin only after the deadline?

The application review will start following the application deadline and we expect results to be communicated approx. 3 weeks later.

I recently received a status update on my application portal indicating that admission has been offered. However, I have not yet received any official admission letter (Zulassungsbescheid). Could you please let me know when and how I can access or expect to receive this document?

Our students' office handles the entire enrolment process. We kindly ask for your patience and understanding that - due to the high number of applicants - it may take some time to receive the official admission letter, which is relevant for your visa application. Any additional documents (beyond the admission letter, i.e. enrolment certificates etc.) will be sent out following the manual enrolment at Augsburg TUAS.

I urgently require further documents for my visa application. Can you provide a written confirmation to this effect or speed up the process in issuing my enrolment certificate?

Please be aware that the Faculty of Electrical Engineering is legally not allowed to issue any confirmations within the application and admissions process. The entire process is handled by the university’s student office and, due to the high number of applications during the application period, we kindly ask for your understanding that the processing of applications and documents may take some time. Please note that you do not require your enrolment certificate for your initial visa application - the university’s admissions letter is sufficient as it includes all relevant information.

I have received an offer letter but may not be able to start my studies in the semester for which I have applied. What can I do?

An offer for admission is valid for one year which means that you can start your studies up to 2 semesters later – e.g. if you need to submit missing documents, experience delays in your visa application. Please note that you will have to formally re-apply. However, if you upload your existing offer letter (and missing documents, i.e. your VDP from uni-assist, proof of English language proficiency etc.) you will receive another admissions letter.
