Brief description
Creative Engineering is an interdisciplinary Bachelor program offered by the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and the Faculty of Design. It combines engineering and design in the interplay between people, environment and technology and enables students to design entire technical systems and implement them as prototypes. Depending on the chosen specialization, students can obtain either a Bachelor of Engineering or a Bachelor of Arts.
The study program will start in winter semester 2022/23 for the first time.
Objectives
Technical systems are increasingly permeating our personal and working lives. For future social challenges, aspects of safety, ecological sustainability and social acceptance need to be considered in design to a growing extent. For this purpose, there is a need for education that is based on people's needs and abilities and leads to innovative solutions.
The Creative Engineering study program offers creative and technically talented candidates an interdisciplinary curriculum, tailored to design-driven innovation development. Students acquire both sound basic knowledge of engineering and design and the ability to reflect on and design technical systems in a social context. This is especially necessary for the democratic requirement to examine technical projects in participatory processes with regard to sustainability, technological consequences and acceptance.
The emancipated use of technology by the individual, as well as the social transparency of technology, are ethical guiding principles for the development goals of the course. The study program has a holistic approach which goes beyond the human-product relationship and places technology within the diverse interactions of our environment. Methods of design and engineering education are linked to enable a high degree of technical knowledge, experiment experience and design competence through suitable teaching forms. Project-oriented modules taught jointly by engineers and designers, in which prototypes and possible application scenarios are developed in relation to a framework topic, are at the core of the curriculum.
Career prospects
The Creative Engineering Bachelor program complements the range of courses at the Augsburg University of Applied Sciences with a stand-alone, transdisciplinary offering which qualifies sought-after personalities for transformation processes in SMEs, start-ups and large corporations, as well as for roles in research departments, with a practice-oriented and project-based module structure.
In accordance with the guiding principle of "sought-after personalities", engineers and designers will be trained for the development of the regional economy, which is primarily characterized by innovative SMEs, and will creatively and systematically meet future technical and social challenges.
Start-ups are explicitly encouraged. Not only are economic success strategies taught, but self-employed people and companies are also addressed as social and cultural bodies. In this way, a fast-moving start-up trend is replaced by a sustainable start-up culture that makes stable, responsible and, above all, successful business possible in the long term.
Application and admission
Profile of candidates
The undergraduate Bachelor degree program is primarily aimed at high school graduates and graduates of technical secondary schools. The study program requires logical, rational thinking as well as the ability to work creatively in a design-oriented manner.
Qualification requirements
Qualification requirements for admission to the Creative Engineering Bachelor program are:
- Higher education entrance qualification
- Passing the aptitude test
Application procedure
Application to the Creative Engineering Bachelor program takes place via the application portal of the Augsburg University of Applied Sciences:
- Information on applying (Student Office)
- Application portal of the Augsburg University of Applied Sciences
Note: Creative Engineering will start in winter semester 2022/23 for the first time. The study program will soon be available to view on the application portal and the information pages of the Student Office.
The application period is from 2 May to 15 June 2022.
After successful application, you will receive an invitation with details on the aptitude test procedure.
Aptitude test
To select suitable candidates, an aptitude test is planned for access to the study program. Logical thinking, the ability to express oneself creatively and reflection will be tested.
The aptitude test will take place at the Augsburg University of Applied Sciences at the beginning of July.
