During the summer semester 2026, students at THA entered the metaverse as custom-designed avatars—using VR headsets and the Engage VR platform. In this context they discussed the opportunities and risks of AI in immersive worlds.

The elective course “AI and Communication” deliberately combines theory and hands-on experience. Students explored virtual scenarios and discussed specific questions: What happens to closeness and distance when the person you’re talking to is an avatar? How does artificial intelligence in VR change the way we communicate? What opportunities and risks does it present?

The immersive environment made these questions not only open to theoretical discussion, but also something that could be experienced firsthand. This course demonstrates how the THA brings together technological development and academic reflection.
