Projects - overview

Discover an exciting opportunity to dive into hands-on research at the Technical University of Applied Sciences Augsburg (THA)! Our Research Internship (RI) program connects motivated international students with innovative research groups, offering a unique chance to gain research experience.
The Research Internship program allows qualified students from abroad to join a THA research group and contribute to a pre-defined project (confer project overview). Interns work full-time in an English-speaking environment and can receive official recognition through a transcript of records.
Outline of the program
There are two types of internships: Internship with enrollment as a student of THA and internship without enrollment. The differences between the two types are listed below:
| With Enrollment | Without Enrollment |

How long before my planned internship should I apply? The processing time of an application is highly individual and depends on several factors like nationality and the chosen variant (with or without enrollment). As a rule of thumb, EU-citizens applying for the variant “with enrollment” should start their application at least 3 months before their planned internship, while Non- EU-citizens applying for the variant “with enrollment” should start their application at least 4 months before their planned internship. For the variant “without enrollment”, EU-citizens should start their application at least 2 months before their planned internship and Non-EU-citizens should start their application at least 4 months before their planned internship. Note that, in any case, students applying for the variant “with enrollment” need to apply before the deadlines given in the table above.
Are research interns eligible for financial support? Yes! As part of the STIBET program of the DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service), we are awarding partial scholarships in form of “Kontaktstipendien” to research interns for the 2026 calendar year. The scholarships range from €250 to €500 per month. In general, all international students participating in the THA’s RI program who are sent by THA partner universities or by universities with which a partnership with the THA is planned or under consideration are eligible to apply and receive funding. After successfully applying as a Research Intern, the applicant may apply for such a scholarship. The awarding of scholarships is subject to the availability of funds from the STIBET program. More information on this scholarship program can be found here.
