Research-Oriented Studies

For students who enjoy research, the Technical University of Applied Sciences Augsburg offers research-oriented master’s programs in various fields. A disproportionately large portion of the coursework consists of project-based, application-oriented research. Upon admission, first-year students are assigned a research topic that guides the content of their entire program.

The research-oriented master’s programs provide a solid foundation for further academic work at a research institution, for example, with the goal of earning a Ph.D. As a master’s degree, the program also opens the door to a career in higher civil service.

The MAPR Research Master’s program is designed for students in all technical disciplines. As graduates of the Master of Applied Research program, they are particularly well-suited for development-related roles in companies and engineering firms, and—with the appropriate experience—for roles involving the planning, organization, and management of development projects. 

The MAPR program is offered in cooperation with the Bavarian universities of Amberg-Weiden, Ansbach, Deggendorf, Ingolstadt, Landshut, Munich, Nuremberg, and Regensburg, as well as the Technical University of Applied Sciences Augsburg. A joint steering committee comprising representatives from the participating universities continues to develop the inter-university module offerings and the joint program concept. 

All Bavarian MAPR students, as well as the members of the steering committee, meet once a year for academic exchange at the Applied Research Conference (ARC).

IMRI is a research-oriented, international master program in business psychology and business informatics. Students have the opportunity to specialize in areas of business psychology and business informatics. Alternatively, they can focus specifically on Human-Technology Interaction (HTI) as the connecting interface between people and technology. This allows students to develop their own individual academic profile.

International experience and intercultural competence are key components of the IMRI program. Nearly all modules are taught in English, creating a learning environment that specifically prepares students for global work and research contexts.
