Studying with a Disability and a Chronic Illness
Technical University of Applied Sciences Augsburg aims to enable students with disabilities and chronic illnesses to participate equally and independently in their studies and in student life.
Here you’ll find a comprehensive collection of all the information, tips, and contacts that can be helpful before and during your studies to help you successfully complete your degree.
Studying with a Disability—Does This Affect Me?
According to the 21st Social Survey by the German Student Services Organization (DSW), studying is made more difficult for about 11% of students due to physical or health-related impairments. Many disabilities and chronic illnesses are not visible. The challenges are as varied as the impairments themselves—whether they involve mental health conditions, chronic physical illnesses, autism spectrum disorder, specific learning disabilities, or visual, hearing, and mobility impairments.
This makes it all the more important to take advantage of counseling and support services—preferably as early as possible—so that individualized solutions can be found.
