The Office of Program Development, Quality Management, and Capacity Affairs supports the THA in systematically ensuring and continuously improving the quality and further development of academic programs and teaching. Our quality management system aligns the university’s internal quality objectives with legal and academic requirements, as well as the expectations of our students, faculty, alumni, industry partners, and other relevant stakeholders. To this end, we have established procedures and tools that provide reliable information for the further development of degree programs, academic studies, and teaching. A particular focus is placed on continuous quality improvement: evaluation results, key performance indicators, and expert assessments are collated, analyzed, and utilized to inform development processes. The evaluation system includes, among other things, regular course evaluations, degree program surveys, graduate surveys, and ad hoc surveys. The results are incorporated, among other things, into the further development of degree programs and into internal accreditation procedures. The Office of Degree Program Development, Quality Management, and Capacity Affairs coordinates university-wide evaluation procedures and supports those responsible for their planning, implementation, and analysis. Our Evaluation Services The Office provides a centralized technical survey system for conducting surveys. The Zensus7 software is used to prepare, conduct, and automatically analyze surveys. In addition, we provide support in: the design and refinement of questionnaires,the selection of appropriate evaluation methods,the implementation of online and other survey formats,the processing and interpretation of evaluation results, andthe use of the results to further develop academic programs and teaching. Our goal is to view evaluation not as an end in itself, but as a tool for evidence-based and constructive dialogue about quality and further development. As part of the implementation of internal system accreditation from 2018 to 2021, the university developed and established its own quality management system (QMS) for academic programs and teaching. With internal system accreditation, responsibility for quality assurance and quality development of the degree programs has been more firmly integrated into the university. The THA can independently accredit its degree programs internally based on defined quality standards and in accordance with legal requirements. The decision on internal accreditation is made by the Internal Accreditation Commission. The development of the quality management system was supported by the evaluation agency Evalag and external experts from the higher education sector. The quality management system establishes a binding framework for the continuous quality assurance and further development of academic programs and teaching. It combines various procedures and tools—including evaluations, peer reviews, and internal accreditation—and consolidates their results to support the quality development of degree programs. This information is incorporated, in particular, into quality improvement efforts and internal accreditation processes. Internal Accreditation Internal accreditation is integrated into the THA’s ongoing quality management system. Degree programs are monitored throughout their entire lifecycle and regularly assessed based on various quality metrics. Evaluations, key performance indicators, and peer reviews provide important insights for quality improvement. The results are compiled as part of the accreditation process and are discussed and evaluated by the internal accreditation commission. Based on this, the commission makes the decision regarding accreditation or reaccreditation. The results, along with any conditions or recommendations formulated, are then incorporated into the further development of the degree program. In this way, THA links accreditation with continuous quality improvement: insights are gained, evaluated, translated into decisions, and used to further develop the degree programs in particular. Accreditation and Continuous Quality Improvement A degree program is continuously refined. Internal accreditation verifies whether quality requirements are met and, at the same time, provides impetus for further development. Internal Accreditation Commission The Internal Accreditation Commission is the central decision-making body for the internal accreditation and re-accreditation of degree programs at THA. Based on the results of the respective accreditation process, the Commission decides on the accreditation of a degree program. In doing so, it takes into account the legal and formal requirements as well as the quality standards defined in THA’s quality management system. In addition to the accreditation decision, the Commission may also issue conditions and recommendations for the further development of a degree program. Compliance with these conditions is reviewed within the specified timeframes. Composition The Internal Accreditation Commission consists of: the Vice President for Academic Affairs as chairone Dean of Academic Affairs from each facultya student representative appointed by the Student Councila representative from the Office of Program Development, Quality Management, and Capacity Affairs, acting as the executive body without voting rights The Commission may invite additional individuals as guests for specific agenda items, in particular the relevant deans and program directors. Further Development of Quality Management – the QM Board Not only are our degree programs constantly evolving, but our quality management system itself will also continue to develop dynamically. For this reason, the QM Board serves as a university-wide working group dedicated to the ongoing development of our approach to quality, our quality management system, and our reporting processes. The QM Board's responsibilities include, in particular: • identifying areas where changes are needed and further developing the quality management system as needed, • facilitating the exchange of experiences between central and decentralized stakeholders in quality management, • keeping the university community informed about the quality management system. The results help instructors reflect on and further develop their courses and foster dialogue between students and instructors. Program surveys regularly provide information on the quality and development of a program from the students' perspective. The results help program administrators and faculties recognize strengths, identify areas for improvement, and develop appropriate measures. Graduates' experiences provide insight into how students evaluate their academic program in retrospect and to what extent the skills they acquired during their studies prepare them for their future educational and professional paths. Peer reviews incorporate the perspectives of external experts into quality assurance. Scholars, representatives from the professional field, students, and other external stakeholders work together with program administrators to examine the program’s profile, quality, and future development. These evaluations complement the THA's regular evaluation procedures and make it possible to examine specific issues in a targeted and timely manner—regardless of the fixed schedule of the regular evaluations. Program for High School Students Goal-oriented and gifted students starting in 11th grade can participate in regular courses as part of the early study program. They receive corresponding academic transcripts, which can be credited toward their degree requirements should they go on to study at the Technical University of Applied Sciences Augsburg. This program gives early-entry students the opportunity to familiarize themselves with degree programs and university life while still in high school, as well as to lay the foundation for their future studies. Once a year for students in grades 7 through 9 Technical University of Applied Sciences Augsburg participates every year in Girls’ Day / Boys’ Day, the nationwide career exploration event. With support from the faculties, our university’s Women’s Office organizes a diverse program for students in grades 7 through 9. Girls'Day Girls’ Day offers girls the opportunity to gain insight into the practical aspects of technical and technology-related fields in the world of education and work. Girls’Day has been successfully held nationwide every year since 2001. Participants include small and medium-sized craft businesses as well as large corporations, colleges, and universities. Faculties with a high proportion of female students offer their events to boys. What We Offer Every year on Girls' Day & Boys' Day, Augsburg University of Applied Sciences invites high school students to a diverse program of events. Under the motto “Hands-On Degree Programs,” young people gain insight into the wide range of disciplines offered at the university. Contact Ms. Kathrin Springinklee The popular IT security event organized by THA_innos, the Institute for Innovative Security at the Technical University of Applied Sciences Augsburg, kicks off every February and invites students from all over Bavaria to solve virtual IT puzzles and explore the topic of IT security in a fun and engaging way. Students of all grade levels and school types are eligible to participate, and participation is free of charge. An interest in computer science and a willingness to tackle puzzles are key requirements. Essentially, the goal is to really dig into the challenges and discover just how much fun IT security topics can be. Small groups and extracurricular clubs can also participate. Every year, several hundred participants register, including a large number of teams. Summer Program for Girls Ages 15 to 18 Attending Bavarian Schools Almost every year, the THA participates in the Women in Research Camp organized by the MINT Initiative “Technology—Future in Bavaria” of the Bildungswerk der Bayerischen Wirtschaft e.V. During the school break, young girls spend a week gaining diverse insights into the academic and professional world of female engineers. For more information, please visit the initiative’s website—“Technology—Future in Bavaria.” The Faculty of Electrical Engineering offers interested high school students the opportunity to participate in an online introductory program. Individual students, as well as groups and school classes, can develop a high-performance transport drone through a combination of lectures and hands-on labs (via an app), thereby gaining insight into the various aspects of the Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, and International Management and Engineering degree programs. The introductory program is particularly suitable for students in 10th grade and above. We are happy to grant individual students access to the introductory program. What happens when lightning strikes, and how is an electric charge actually created? The LEW Children’s University aims to spark an early interest in technical questions. In the 90-minute interactive lectures held in the LEW High-Voltage Hall at the Technical University of Applied Sciences Augsburg, elementary school students learn about and experience “high-voltage” topics related to electricity.
