According to the 21st Social Survey by the German Student Services Organization (DSW), studying is made more difficult for about 11% of students due to physical or health-related impairments. Many disabilities and chronic illnesses are not visible. The challenges are as varied as the impairments themselves—whether they involve mental health conditions, chronic physical illnesses, autism spectrum disorder, specific learning disabilities, or visual, hearing, and mobility impairments. This makes it all the more important to take advantage of counseling and support services—preferably as early as possible—so that individualized solutions can be found. English Language Aptitude Test Eligibility Application Documents VPD/uni-assist Letter of Motivation Application Results Post-Qualification Student Life I completed my entire Bachelor's degree in English and have an official English proficiency statement/Medium of Instruction (MOI) certificate from my university. Would this document be sufficient to meet the English language requirement for admission? Could you provide me with details regarding the aptitude test for your Master’s program, including its format, topics covered, and any preparation guideline? Before proceeding with the uni-assist VPD process, I would like to clarify a few points regarding my eligibility. Does my current Bachelor’s degree and GPA meet the program’s academic requirements? I would like to apply for your Master’s program in Electrical Engineering, but have completed my Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. Can I apply with this specialization? What is the step-by-step procedure for international applicants to submit applications (directly via the university portal or through Uni-Assist)? Do I have to submit my language certificate to uni-assist? Should I upload an official program description document from my university, which includes details such as the course name, objectives, content, lecture and lab hours, and credit hours? Should I upload documents such as certificates of employment during my studies or as an engineer after having graduated or recommendation letters from university professors or employers? Is it mandatory to calculate the ECTS myself or provide a conversion formula? As a non-EU applicant with a foreign Bachelor’s degree, am I required to upload anything in the application portal’s section “Examinations to be credited”? Since I have already graduated and am not currently enrolled in any study program, do I need to submit a document in the university application portal’s section “certificate of enrolment or de-registration”? To apply for your Master’s program, should I send my application only through uni- assist or should I get the VPD from uni-assist and submit my application through the application portal? I have not yet received my degree certificate. So, would it be sufficient to submit the transcript of records with my current ECTS? All my documents are already released in English with my university’s stamp as official documentation. So, do I need to further authenticate them from an EU office? And do I need to translate them? In the "University entrance qualification upload" field, should I upload only the VPD from uni-assist? Or should I also include other documents such as my school leaving certificate, Bachelor’s degree certificate, and transcript of records? Do I need to post a "printed out application form” to Augsburg TUAS? If I have previously obtained a Preliminary Review Documentation (VPD) from uni-assist for an application to another German university, would this existing VPD be acceptable for my application to Augsburg TUAS, or do I need to request a new one? For the letter of motivation for the Electrical Engineering program, are there any specific guidelines or requirements I should follow when writing it? In the application portal, should I upload it under the "Other documents/ evidence" section? Whom should I contact if I have a question concerning the state of my application? Could you please let me know approximately when the application results are expected to be announced? Will the submitted documents be processed before the application deadline, or will the review process begin only after the deadline? I recently received a status update on my application portal indicating that admission has been offered, but I have not yet received any official admission letter (Zulassungsbescheid). When and how I can access or expect to receive this document? I urgently require further documents for my visa application. Can you provide a written confirmation to this effect or speed up the process in issuing my enrolment certificate? I have received an offer letter but may not be able to start my studies in the semester for which I have applied. What can I do? I have received a conditional offer for the Master’s program in Electrical Engineering and have to complete 30 Credits within the first two semester of my studies. Which courses can I attend? What is the approximate tuition fee or semester contribution for international students? How can I obtain my semester ticket (for public transport) and what do I have to do to upgrade my semester ticket to the discounted version of the Deutschlandticket? Please note that for all non-native speakers, we do require proof of English language proficiency in form of one of the certificates stated in our Application Information booklet. Unfortunately, we cannot accept university statements as proof of English language proficiency. Please refer to our Application Information booklet for further details about accepted English language tests and scores required. Exceptions: THA bachelor’s degree graduates who completed their studies under the old curriculum regulations ET, ME, and TI (2018 for ET and ME, and 2016 for TI) are not required to take a language test due to the mandatory course in Technical English.A German high school diploma (e.g., Abitur, Fachabitur) is accepted as proof of English proficiency if the diploma explicitly confirms level B2 (according to the CEFR). Applicants are currently required to submit a motivation letter with their application. Further information can be found in our Application Information Booklet. Please note that we are not making any advance statements on admission without having received a formal application through our online application portal. The very purpose of the VPD is a reliable conversion of a foreign GPA into the German grading scale and an equivalence assessment of the foreign Bachelor’s degree. Therefore, a VPD issued specifically for study at Augsburg TUAS is an essential part of your application and for admission. As per paragraph 3(1) of our Study and Examination regulations, "the qualification requirement for admission to the Electrical Engineering master's program is a university degree from a German university with an above-average grade (overall examination grade of 2.69 or better) with at least 210 credit points (CP) according to the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) in one of the degree programs Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, Mechatronics or Computer Engineering or an equivalent degree from a German or foreign university". Please note that applicants with foreign degrees must submit a VDP from uni-assist. For further information, please refer to our Application Information booklet. Please refer to our Application Information Booklet where you will find step-by-step guidance on the application procedure. Please submit your language certificate directly to us, together with your online application. Regarding your university qualification, we only require the degree certificate as well as the final transcript and, if available, the diploma supplement. No, because they are irrelevant for the decision about admission. These documents only enlarge your application file unnecessarily and may result in a longer review process. You do not need to provide us with an ECTS conversion formula if your university cannot provide this themselves. However, please note that we require a VPD from uni-assist to evaluate your application. The "examinations to be credited" section is only relevant for Home students who would like to get credits from a previous study program transferred/accredited to a new study program. We are aware that de-registration certificates do not exist in every country, but for our administrative purposes it would be helpful if your former institution/university could provide a letter to confirm that you are no longer enrolled. We can confirm that for the Master's programs we require both, the VPD from uni-assist as well as the submission of your application through our application portal (including the submission of your VPD). Students who have not yet received their final certificate, can apply with their current transcript of records and would be expected to submit their final documents as soon as they are available. In such a case the admission offer remains conditional and failure to submit the final degree certificate and transcript of records by the deadline, set in the letter of admission, will invalidate the admission offer. You do not need a translation for English documents, but we would still require certified copies. If there isn't a separate upload section for university certificates, please upload all relevant certificates in the "university entrance qualification" area. Otherwise, the VPD, university certificate and transcript should be uploaded in the area for Bachelor degree certificates. From the winter semester 2023/24 onwards, the application process at Augsburg University of Applied Sciences is completely digital. The application form is filled out and submitted online and the required documents are uploaded in the online application portal. Please note that all application documents must be uploaded by the application deadline! It is not necessary to send the application by post! Please request a VPD for our Master’s program/institution as the equivalence check, conducted by uni-assist, is program-specific. With a VPD, issued for another university, we are unlikely to receive all required information to assess and confirm eligibility for our Master’s program. The submission of a personal statement should take the following aspects into account (as per Annex A.5 of the Study and examination regulations for the Electrical Engineering master program at the Technical University of Applied Sciences Augsburg dated 15 October 2024): Motivation for studying the master program "Electrical Engineering"Reasons for choosing to study in Augsburg or GermanyDescription of existing and new competences and skills to be acquired in the Master's degree program You can then upload your letter of motivation in the "other documents/evidence" section of our application portal. For all administrative queries (i.e. issuing of an official letter of admission, how the fee should be paid, etc.), please contact the Student Affairs Office (studienangelegenheiten@tha.de) as this is the only department that is able to help. Please note that the Faculty of Electrical Engineering is unable to answer any administrative queries nor legally allowed to produce and provide written confirmation letters or other documentation. The application review will start following the application deadline and we expect results to be communicated approx. 3 weeks later. Our Students' Affairs Office handles the entire enrolment process. We kindly ask for your patience and understanding that - due to the high number of applicants - it may take some time to receive the official admission letter, which is relevant for your visa application. Any additional documents (beyond the admission letter, i.e. enrolment certificates etc.) will be sent out following the manual enrolment at Augsburg TUAS. Please be aware that the Faculty of Electrical Engineering is legally not allowed to issue any confirmations within the application and admissions process. The entire process is handled by the university’s student office and, due to the high number of applications during the application period, we kindly ask for your understanding that the processing of applications and documents may take some time. Please note that you do not require your enrolment certificate for your initial visa application - the university’s admissions letter is sufficient as it includes all relevant information. An offer for admission is valid for one year which means that you can start your studies up to 2 semesters later – e.g. if you need to submit missing documents, experience delays in your visa application. Please note that you will have to formally re-apply. However, if you upload your existing offer letter (and missing documents, i.e. your VDP from uni-assist, proof of English language proficiency etc.) you will receive another admissions letter. Students with conditional enrolment must provide proof of the missing competences within the first year after enrolment by means of subsequent qualification to the extent of the required credit points. In the post-qualification, competences must be acquired that were not part of the undergraduate degree program. If practical skills are missing, the post-qualification must be achieved by completing a relevant practical activity that corresponds in type (and scope) to a practical semester of the degree program in question. You will receive a list of relevant courses to complete the missing credits. At Augsburg TUAS we have currently no separate tuition fee for international students. However, all students are required to pay the semester fee, which is currently set at 164,25 €. Further information can be found on the re-enrollment and semester fee page. Your student identity card (Campus Card Augsburg) is your semester ticket for the following Augsburg public transport systems: AVV and avg. The IT Services Center provides further information on their Campus Card page. Students at the Technical University of Applied Sciences Augsburg can also upgrade their semester ticket to a Bavarian discount ticket. If you would like to participate, you can sign up for a consultation appointment on this page. Registration for Portfolio Review It’s a good idea to bring a selection of your work samples to the consultation appointment. However, you can also use the appointment for an orientation meeting without presenting any work samples. So that we can focus on discussing your portfolio, please read the information on the content and format of the application portfolio and make a note of any additional questions you may have. There are only a limited number of spots available per session. Once the maximum number of participants is reached, no further spots will be allocated for that session. To ensure fairness, multiple registrations for different sessions cannot be accepted. Please note that the portfolio consultation is in German. Registration Form Contact Person Room: M 3.02 Technical University of Applied Sciences Augsburg – Roter Tor Campus Friedbergerstraße 2, 86161 Augsburg Information About the Application Portfolio You will apply online by submitting a digital portfolio, which you will upload via the application portal along with your application. Your portfolio should give us the best possible impression of your conceptual and creative, artistic and design, and technical and craftsmanship skills. We expect approximately 20 examples of your work in the techniques and media of your choice (e.g., drawing, painting, photography, collage, or even sculptures and 3D objects). It is important to us that your work gives us an impression of how you perceive your environment, what themes you explore, where you find ideas, and how you develop them further. For this reason, we welcome sketchbooks, development studies, or storyboards that reveal your working or thought process. We value a diversity of ideas and originality that reveal a distinctive artistic voice. Of course, the quality of a piece can also lie in the precise observation, reproduction, or creative interpretation of a subject (nature studies, portrait and figure drawings, animal studies, etc.). In such cases, a piece may stand out due to its graphic and spatial composition, an interesting pictorial structure, or the use of color, for example. Choose themes, subjects, and techniques that do not overwhelm you and that, as much as possible, highlight your strengths and reflect your interests. But also keep in mind that drawings based on reference images (magazines, manga, etc.) may reveal something about your interests, but little about your talent as a designer. Submitted photographic or digital works should also be based on compelling ideas. The use of technical tools alone is no guarantee of creative quality. We recommend that you evaluate your work self-critically. Procedure: Digitize your work and documents.Include an informal statement confirming that you are the sole author of the work. Please combine all your work and documents into a single PDF file and name it as described below.Upload this PDF file as part of your application on the THA application portal.Once the upload is complete, you can view your application with the PDF file on the university portal. Summary: The digital portfolio shows us your work (or scans or photos) and thus replaces a physical portfolio. It consists of a single PDF file containing: about 20 samples of your work(sketch pages from sketchbooks or photos of, for example, three-dimensional works)relevant transcript(s)a tabular resumean informal confirmation of your authorship of the submitted work When compiling your portfolio, ensure that all image files have a uniform final size and a sufficiently high resolution. To ensure we can always associate the PDF file with you, it is very important to name the files correctly! The file size of the digital portfolio should not exceed 30 MB if possible. Please name your PDF file: LastName_FirstName_ApplicationPortfolio_KD_2026.pdf Please note that we unfortunately must reject submissions that do not comply with these guidelines. One more tip regarding submission: Uploads tend to spike just before the application deadline, which can lead to bottlenecks and delays. You’ll save yourself—and us—some stress if you upload your portfolio a little earlier… WebsiteGuidelines for UseGuidelines for Use March 31, 1998 The Augsburg University of Applied Sciences hereby issues the following guideline pursuant to Article 5(3)(3) of the Bavarian Higher Education Act (BayHSchG) of December 1, 1993 (GVBl, p. 953), as currently in force. Preamble Augsburg University of Applied Sciences and its facilities (“Operator” or “System Operator”) operate an information processing infrastructure (IP infrastructure) consisting of data processing systems (computers), communication systems (networks), and other auxiliary facilities for information processing. The IT infrastructure is integrated into the German research network and, consequently, into the global Internet. These usage guidelines govern the conditions under which the services offered may be used. The User Guidelines are based on the university’s legally defined responsibilities as well as its mandate to safeguard academic freedom, establish basic rules for the proper operation of the IT infrastructure, draw attention to the rights of third parties that must be respected (e.g., software licenses, network operator requirements, data protection considerations),require users to behave appropriately and to use the available resources efficiently, and explain any measures the operator may take in the event of violations of the usage regulations The President of Augsburg University of Applied Sciences Prof. Dipl. Ing. H. Benedikt April 1, 1998 These guidelines were adopted by the university on April 1, 1998; their adoption was announced on April 1, 1998, by posting a notice on campus. The date of announcement is therefore April 1, 1998. §1 Scope §2 User Group and Responsibilities §3 Formal Authorization to Use §4 Users' Rights and Obligations §5 Rights and Obligations of System Operators §6 Expulsion and Withdrawal §7 Priorities and Order of Precedence §8 Costs §9 Liability §10 Data Protection §11 Miscellaneous Provisions §12 Effective Date These guidelines apply to the information infrastructure provided by Augsburg University of Applied Sciences and its facilities, consisting of data processing equipment (computers), communication systems (networks), and other information-processing support facilities, to the extent that this infrastructure is connected to external networks (e.g., the German Research Network). The facilities referred to in § 1 are available to members of the Augsburg University of Applied Sciences for the purpose of fulfilling their duties in the areas of research, teaching, administration, education and continuing education, public relations, and the university’s external image, as well as for other duties described in Article 2 of the Bavarian Higher Education Act.Other individuals and institutions may be permitted to use these facilities. This generally requires a separate, written agreement.“Users” as defined by these guidelines include all individuals who have formal authorization to use the network, as well as individuals who gain access to the German Academic Network—for example, in administrative settings, at closed events, in projects, or at individual workstations—without formal authorization (whether based on a personal ID or group identifier). Authorization to use the facilities must be requested from the responsible system operator. Exceptions are services set up for anonymous access (e.g., information services). The application must include the following information: Applicant: Name, address, and, if applicable, student ID number, as well as affiliation with an organizational unit at the university of applied sciences;Purpose of use, e.g., research, education, administration;Systems for which authorization is being requested;A statement that the user acknowledges these guidelines and consents to the collection and processing of personal data in accordance with § 5. Consent may also be provided electronically, as the requirements of Art. 2 § 3(7) of the Information and Communication Services Act (IuKDG) are met;A notice that consent may be revoked at any time with future effect. The system operator may only request additional information to the extent that it is necessary to decide on the application. The responsible system operator decides on the application. The system operator may make the granting of user authorization contingent upon proof of certain knowledge regarding the use of the system.Authorization is granted within the limits of available capacity. It may be subject to a limit on computing time as well as other conditions and requirements.Authorization for use is generally granted for a period of 2 years, with the possibility of renewal. For professors, research staff, and non-research staff, authorization is automatically extended for an additional year without the need for an application, provided it is not revoked. The user ID is non-transferable. If the user discovers any misuse of their user ID, they must immediately notify the office that issued the user ID so that the ID can be blocked. Furthermore, the user is responsible for all actions taken by third parties if the user has enabled access by third parties through at least gross negligence.Once the authorized user has reported the unauthorized use by another party, they are no longer responsible for any further unauthorized use carried out with the user ID after that point in time.Authorization may be denied, revoked, or subsequently restricted, in particular ifno proper application has been submitted or the information provided is incorrect or no longer accurate, including, in particular, if the consent under paragraph 1 is revoked;the conditions for proper use of the facilities are not met or are no longer met;the authorized user has been barred from use;the proposed use is not compatible with the purposes set forth in § 2;the facility is unsuitable for the intended use or is reserved for specific purposes;the capacity of the facility for which use is requested is insufficient for the intended work due to existing utilization;the facility to be used is connected to a network that must meet specific data protection requirements, and there is no apparent objective reason for this request for access;it is to be expected that the requested use will unreasonably disrupt other authorized uses. The authorization to use the facility applies only to work related to the requested use.The authorization to use the facility is limited to work related to the requested use. Authorization to install software is governed separately depending on the respective local and technical system conditions. The user is prohibited from making any changes to the hardware installation or modifying the configuration of the operating systems, system files, or the network without the consent of the responsible system administrator. The user is prohibited from maintaining more than one remote access connection to the Augsburg University of Applied Sciences’ access points at the same time. The user is prohibited from accessing and/or using messages intended for other users.Violations may give rise to claims for damages. Please be advised of the following criminal offenses:Interception of data (Section 202a of the German Criminal Code (StGB))Unauthorized alteration, deletion, suppression, or rendering of data unusable (§ 303a StGB)Computer sabotage (Section 303b of the German Criminal Code (StGB)) and computer fraud (Section 263a of the German Criminal Code (StGB))The dissemination of propaganda materials from unconstitutional organizations (Section 86 of the German Criminal Code) or racist ideology (Section 130 of the German Criminal Code)the dissemination of certain forms of pornography online (Section 184(3) StGB)Accessing or possessing documents containing child pornography (Section 184(5) of the German Criminal Code (StGB))Offenses against personal dignity, such as insult or defamation (Sections 185 et seq. of the German Criminal Code (StGB)). Each system operator shall maintain documentation regarding the user authorizations granted. The records must generally be retained for two years after the authorization expires. The system operator has the right to prevent or detect misuse in an appropriate manner, particularly through random checks. To this end, the system operator is specifically authorized to:document and analyze user activities to the extent that this serves the purposes of billing, resource planning, monitoring operations, or investigating errors and violations of these guidelines and statutory provisions. If, as a result of measures taken under subparagraph (a), there is compelling evidence of misuse, access may be temporarily suspended or revoked following a prior hearing with the user. Once the facts of the matter have been sufficiently clarified, the suspension may be lifted or access reinstated. If the suspicion under subparagraph (b) is not unequivocally dispelled, in the event of repeated violations of these guidelines—to the extent that such violations may lead to serious disruptions of operations—or in the event of renewed, well-founded suspicion of criminal acts (German Criminal Code [StGB] and others), in compliance with the dual-control principle and the record-keeping requirement, user data may be accessed, or the user’s network usage may be logged in detail and in real time, without prior notice to the user, if this is unavoidable to maintain proper operations or, in the event of suspected misuse, to prevent such misuse.in cases of strong suspicion of criminal acts—if necessary—to take measures to preserve evidence. The user must be notified immediately after a measure under subsections 2(c) and (d) has been implemented, provided that this does not frustrate the purpose of the measure or unduly impede its implementation. For measures under paragraph 2(c) taken against members pursuant to Art. 17, paragraph 1, no. 2, 4, 5, 8, 9, and 10 of the Bavarian Higher Education Act (BayHSchG), the approval of the President is required; for members under Art. 17, para. 1, no. 6 of the Bavarian Higher Education Act (BayHSchG), the approval of the Chancellor is required, in each case together with the responsible dean or head of a central institution. For members pursuant to Art. 17, para. 1, no. 7 of the Bavarian Higher Education Act (BayHSchG) (students), the approval of the Chancellor and the responsible system operator is required. If a measure under paragraph 2(c) is to be implemented with respect to members under Article 17(1)(6) of the Bavarian Higher Education Act (BayHSchG), the staff council must be consulted. The system operator is obligated to maintain confidentiality. Individuals who violate these guidelines or commit criminal acts may be temporarily or permanently barred from use, unless restrictions on use are proportionate to the violation and can prevent further misuse. Such exclusion does not affect the user’s obligations arising from the user agreement. The university’s claim to the agreed-upon fee remains in effect. The user is not entitled to claims for damages based on the exclusion. The university reserves the right to withdraw from a user agreement, in whole or in part, if the user’s admission is revoked or restricted. In such cases, the university is not obligated to pay compensation.Administrative measures under the Bavarian Higher Education Act (BayHSchG) as well as disciplinary measures remain unaffected by this. The university reserves the right to take criminal and/or civil legal action. Teaching operations take top priority. Requests from internal users (members of the university) are processed before those from external users. The services provided by the University of Applied Sciences are provided to internal users as defined in § 2(1)—insofar as they are basic services—without charge. For external users as defined in § 2(1), the university may charge fees equal to the operating costs; for other users (§ 2(2)), fees equal to the full costs may be charged.Full costs comprise the total costs of operating the system. They include personnel costs, material costs, depreciation, and overhead costs. The University of Applied Sciences does not guarantee that the system will operate error-free and without interruption. The University of Applied Sciences cannot guarantee the integrity and confidentiality of the data stored with it.The University of Applied Sciences assumes no responsibility for the accuracy of programs, even if they were written by a University of Applied Sciences employee, and is not liable for damages or incorrect results arising from technical malfunctions or defective equipment, unless the damage is due to intentional or grossly negligent conduct on the part of an employee or an agent of the University of Applied Sciences.Persons who unlawfully use the University’s computer facilities without instruction or permission are liable for all damages they cause. The user is liable for all damages caused in connection with the use of the computer labs. This applies in particular to damages caused by failure to comply with the user’s obligations, by providing false information regarding the type of use and consumption, and by the unauthorized use of another person’s identification, protected data, or protected programs. Compensation for damages must be paid in cash. The user is obligated to indemnify the university against any claims for damages by third parties. The provisions of data protection laws apply accordingly. Fees for the use of information processing systems may be established in separate regulations. For certain systems, supplementary or different rules of use may be established as needed. These guidelines shall take effect on the day following their publication by posting. Using modern methods such as design thinking and generative AI, you’ll specifically strengthen your assertiveness, presentation skills, and leadership abilities. Work in teams to develop innovative solutions, network with female founders in the field, and actively shape the future. The THA Funkenwerk seminar “From Innovation Problem to Management Decision” offers students a hands-on environment in which to work on real-world business cases as student management consultants. Complex innovation problems are broken down into structured components, analyses are synthesized into clear decision-making frameworks, and well-founded recommendations for management are developed. The results are then concisely presented in a pitch format to industry partners. This process sharpens analytical skills, management expertise, and presentation skills while actively shaping the future of these companies. Rapid business model prototyping makes it possible to develop and validate business ideas quickly, in a structured manner, and with minimal risk. This is relevant for students because it allows them to specifically link technological innovations with market-oriented thinking and align their solutions with real-world needs, such as in digital transformation projects or when founding a startup. Controlling Division Controllers design and support the management process of goal-setting, planning, and control, and thus share responsibility for achieving goals. Controllers are often referred to within a company as an internal interface. They assist senior management in decision-making but generally do not make these decisions themselves at the highest level. In addition, the Controlling department serves as an interface between Human Resources and senior management. It assists senior management in defining and achieving goals. It also explains why goals were or were not achieved. Within the various departments, it supports department heads by providing suggestions and plans for implementing corporate goals. From a business management perspective, Controlling forms the backbone of future-oriented corporate development. Based on data from external financial reporting (accounting), situation-specific planning and control systems (management accounting) are used to track the achievement of business objectives and ensure the value-oriented allocation of capital (financial control). Since 2010, THA_ops has been addressing issues in the regional and national economy. In doing so, the professors draw on their expertise gained from many years of practical experience and combine it with cutting-edge knowledge from theoretical research. Their work focuses on process optimization, lean management, change management, and IT landscape optimization. Projects are supported from the conceptual design phase through to successful implementation. The focus of these projects is on a holistic approach to process optimization, lean management, change management, and business informatics using a variety of methods. The professional service portfolio includes, among other things, the specific interface analysis of production, logistics, and IT processes—ranging from concept development, project management, and consulting services to the implementation of objectives. The research group offers continuing education opportunities for logistics professionals, even those without a college entrance qualification. With a strong practical focus, the program emphasizes methods, conceptually structured approaches, IT fundamentals, leadership skills, and legal foundations. People Involved: Prof. Dr. Michael Krupp (Spokesperson for the Research Group)Prof. Dr. Peter RichardProf. Dr. Florian Waibel Department of Intercultural Competence and Foreign Languages for Business The Department of Intercultural Competence and Business Foreign Languages specializes in teaching communication skills to students in international contexts. In an era of growing global challenges, we view our work as a contribution to international understanding through the teaching of relevant language and communication skills. The foundation of any effective intercultural communication in a business setting is the ability to interact with business partners in their language at a professional level. Our members therefore come from the field of foreign languages and work closely with the Center for Languages and Intercultural Communication (ZSI) to ensure that our students achieve the highest language proficiency levels during their studies through real-world training situations and the use of state-of-the-art teaching methods. In addition, we maintain contacts with many partner universities through Erasmus agreements, student exchanges, and faculty mobility, in line with Augsburg University of Applied Sciences’ strategic goals for promoting internationalization. The other pillar of our team is intercultural competence. Alisa Kasle-Henke provides undergraduate and graduate students with a solid foundation in sociological theories and practical exercises through courses in Cross-Cultural Management and Intercultural Communication. These include problem-solving strategies for students as future managers or members of diverse international teams. This encompasses both subject-matter and methodological expertise as well as practical and interpersonal skills. This marketing philosophy helps develop individuals who can inspire others, take on responsibility, and create lasting value for the economy and society. Prof. Dr. habil. Klaus Kellner, Prof. Dr. Hariet Köstner, and Prof. Dr. Manfred Uhl not only contribute their respective areas of expertise to teaching but also actively integrate them into teaching, research, and practical projects. The marketing team is active in the bachelor’s degree programs in Business Administration, International Management, and International Industrial Engineering, as well as in the forward-looking master’s program in Digital Marketing Management (MMD). In addition, they teach in the continuing education programs offered by Augsburg University of Applied Sciences for companies at the West Bavarian Technology Center (TCW) in Nördlingen. The main areas of focus are: marketing strategy, business profiling, key account management, and product management (Prof. Dr. habil. Klaus Kellner); marketing and corporate communications (Prof. Dr. Manfred Uhl); and empirical market research and methods (Prof. Dr. Hariet Köstner). Internationality plays a major role in these programs. Course modules such as International Marketing Management, Corporate Communication, and International Business Profiling address the challenges companies face in international competition and impart not only technical expertise but also intercultural knowledge. Methodological training is also a key priority. Additional modules in the areas of digitalization and AI provide essential methodological knowledge. Practical projects, guest lectures by experts in specialized areas of marketing management, and guest speakers from companies and nonprofit institutions complement the work of the marketing team. Partners in recent semesters have included, for example, Mercedes, Google, Amazon, BMW, KUKA, GfK, Voxeljet, and many others. People involved: Prof. Dr. habil. Klaus Kellner (Chair of the Department)Prof. Dr. Hariet KöstnerProf. Dr. Manfred Uhl Division of Human Resources Management, Labor Market Research, and Strategy Human resources and strategy topics are an integral part of the bachelor’s degree programs in Business Administration, International Management, and International Industrial Engineering at the School of Business. Students can also focus on this area in the master’s program in Human Resources Management. However, the department also teaches outside the faculty, for example in the Master’s program in Environmental and Process Engineering at the Faculty of Mechanical and Process Engineering. Prof. Dr. Erika Regnet is an expert in human resource leadership, human resource development, demographics, aging workforces, and equal opportunity. Prof. Dr. Sarah Hatfield’s research focuses on change and performance management. She also addresses trends such as agility in organizations and aspects of Generation Y. Prof. Dr. Michael Freiboth primarily teaches the subject areas of international human resource management, corporate strategy, and labor law. Prof. Dr. Jens Horbach teaches labor market economics and empirical social research in the Master’s program in Human Resource Management. In addition to teaching, the program emphasizes active networking in research as well as practical projects. Prof. Dr. Erika Regnet offers at least one practical project each academic year in collaboration with regional companies. Recent topics have included: an employee survey for the Evangelical Regional Church of Württemberg, trend analysis in national and international human resources marketing, and a survey of the career expectations of “Best Agers.” Students apply their knowledge in practice under Prof. Hatfield’s guidance in change consulting. Last semester, Köhninger Organizational Consulting developed solutions for selecting digital media in change communication and for training change agents, among other things. Prof. Dr. Freiboth also places great emphasis on practical relevance. Project topics include the employment value proposition in an international context, employer branding, social media recruiting, expatriation, and leadership in an international context. The team—comprising Prof. Dr. Micha Bloching, Prof. Dr. Julia Wicke, and Prof. Dr. Felicitas Maunz—not only incorporates their areas of expertise into teaching but also integrates and links them with other courses in the curriculum. In addition to its involvement in the bachelor’s programs in Business Administration and International Management, the Law division oversees the master’s programs in Marketing/Sales/Media and Taxation and Accounting—offered in collaboration with Ingolstadt University of Applied Sciences—as well as the master’s program in Human Resource Management, offered in collaboration with Munich University of Applied Sciences. In addition, the department is involved in the course “Fundamentals of Student Self-Organization,” which is designed to help students in all offered bachelor’s programs get off to a good start in their studies. Key areas of expertise include: international business law, labor law (Prof. Bloching), European and social security law (Prof. Wicke), as well as competition, trademark, advertising, and media law (Prof. Maunz). Practical projects, field trips, and interactions with companies (e.g., Sky, ADAC, ProSiebenSat.1, etc.) help students understand the relevance of the intersections between law and business. Regular visits to courts or government organizations (such as the Federal Labor Court, the European Court of Justice, or the European Parliament) are intended to provide students with insight into case law and legislation. It's too difficult for a mathematician. Albert Einstein (1879–1955) In light of this insight, the Tax and Accounting Section sees itself as the “philosopher” of the faculty. A defining feature is the diverse, practice-oriented focus of the individual instructors’ teaching. The four full-time professors draw on a wealth of experience from their work at major accounting firms, as independent tax consultants, or in the private sector. They teach in a practice-oriented manner and enable students to confidently address tax law issues in both corporate taxation and individual taxation. In the field of accounting—the heart of every business—all three accounting systems relevant to German companies are taught and applied: accounting in accordance with the German Commercial Code (HGB) for all business entities, tax balance sheet regulations, and the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). We teach at various levels, both within the bachelor’s degree programs in Business Administration, International Management, and International Industrial Engineering, as well as in our flagship program, the Master’s in Taxation and Accounting. In particular, students are expected to learn to think in terms of economic models, which will enable them to conduct well-founded analyses of current economic policy issues. The team led by Prof. Dr. Jens Horbach and Prof. Dr. Maria Lehner, which is active across all degree programs in the School of Economics, makes a special effort to integrate their own research into their teaching. Research focuses on issues in environmental and innovation economics, the analysis of financial markets, and statistical and econometric evaluations. The department has a strong international focus. In teaching, supporting international students is a high priority. A large portion of the courses is offered in English. In research, the focus is on peer-reviewed publications, national and international research collaborations (including with the ZEW in Mannheim and the SEEDS network at the University of Ferrara), as well as presentations at international conferences and workshops.
