Startup Ambassador

Bringing the Entrepreneurial Spirit to the Faculties

As startup ambassadors at the Technical University of Applied Sciences Augsburg (THA), we work together with THA_funkenwerk to guide and support students, researchers, staff, and professors in bringing their ideas to life. We’re here to offer advice and practical assistance, and to source and connect them with valuable resources. Whether you already have a fully formed idea or simply an interest in and passion for innovation, we’re here to support you from the very first spark of an idea all the way to the fireworks of a successful startup.

Courses

Today, companies operate in a challenging environment characterized, among other things, by rapid technological developments, constant innovation, and increasing global competitive pressure. On the one hand, technologies such as AI and cloud computing provide the foundation for the rapid and scalable development of everything from internal tools, digital products, and services to entire business models. On the other hand, however, these technologies—combined with accelerating market dynamics and changing (customer) expectations—are also leading to ever-shorter project cycles. At the same time, when selecting ideas for implementation, companies and their development departments must carefully manage their limited capacities, tight budgets, and demanding schedules, and make well-informed go/no-go decisions.

Against this backdrop, the overarching goal of this course is to enable students to quickly develop an idea into a professional business concept and a management-ready presentation, complete with a functional, cloud-based prototype, for approval by management. Accordingly, the course bridges the gap between ideas/innovation and prototypical implementation, combining entrepreneurial thinking and digital product management with expertise in IT and cloud computing.

Further details about the course can be found in the module handbook.

Getting started in the IT industry can be a challenge—especially for (international) students who must navigate not only linguistic and cultural differences but also unfamiliar organizational structures and role expectations in various fields such as software development, consulting, manufacturing, and finance. This module provides a basic understanding of how IT organizations are structured. It examines industry-specific characteristics and typical IT job profiles and helps students better understand the professional landscape and position themselves both culturally and professionally within these organizations.

Imagine you work for a company and need to use information systems to track the company’s financial status or determine whether an investment is worthwhile. Without knowledge of bookkeeping and financial reporting, it would be difficult to understand the financial processes and the implications of decisions. In this module, you’ll learn the basics of bookkeeping and develop an understanding of how to prepare and analyze financial statements. Important topics such as double-entry bookkeeping and the interpretation of financial ratios are covered in a practical and clear manner. This knowledge will help you better understand the financial dynamics within companies and make well-informed decisions.
