The library as a place for learning and studying
The library offers all visitors a pleasant atmosphere and excellent technical facilities for studying and working.
Discover your favorite spot, use the Wi-Fi or the library computers, and find the scanner that suits your needs.
Internet access, PCs
Guest Wi-Fi
BayernWLAN is available free of charge to all guests. No login is required to use this Wi-Fi; you simply need to accept the terms of use. There are no time or data volume limits.
Members of educational institutions that use eduroam can also connect to the eduroam Wi-Fi network at THA.
(Note: Access to the library’s e-books and databases is not available via these Wi-Fi networks.)
Library Computers
For academic purposes (e.g., to access the THA library’s e-books and databases), you are welcome to use the library computers, which have internet access and MS Office programs.
Please check in at the library desk during staffed core hours. We will then log you in at an available computer. For IT security reasons, we record your usage time.
Unfortunately, you cannot use the computers during extended hours.
Technical features
Monitors for connecting your own devices
There are two monitors in the reading room equipped with HDMI and DisplayPort cables. You can connect your own laptop or similar device here to use a larger or secondary monitor.
If you need additional adapters to connect your device, you can obtain them from the technical equipment lending desk.
Printing/copying
Unfortunately, this service is not available to guests.
It is exclusively available to THA members and requires a valid IT account.
Paper cutter
Near the newspaper reading corner, you’ll find a paper cutter for trimming paper.
Stapler and hole punch
To punch holes in or staple documents, you can use the stapler and hole punch in the copy room or in the counter area to the right of the staircase.
Scanner
The two Bookeye scanners are particularly well-suited for books and magazines.

Scans (up to DIN A2) can be saved as PDF, JPG, or TIFF files.
You can save them to a USB flash drive or, with the Bookeye 5, to a smartphone or tablet.
Instructions are posted directly on the device.

Large documents (up to 50 loose, unstapled/unbound sheets up to DIN A4 size) can be quickly saved as PDFs using the ScanSnap iX500 document scanner on a PC at the service counter or via an app on your own mobile device (Android; iOS).
Text recognition is also available with this scanner.
You’ll find the document scanner in the counter area, to the right of the passageway leading to the magazine reading corner.

The library's sections
Right in the thick of things, focused studying, or leisurely browsing. Get to know the library's different areas.
Counter area - right in the heart of the action (includes computer stations)
Library Desk
As soon as you enter the library on the first floor, you’ll see the library desk. During regular hours, you can get help here with any questions you have about the library. During extended hours, the desk is staffed by a supervisor only.
Computer Workstations
- 10 computer workstations in the service desk area
- 10 additional computer workstations in training room H 2.19
Group Rooms
- 3 group study rooms with a total of 28 seats (1x4, 2x12 seats)
- It is not possible to reserve a group room for a specific date and time, as high demand makes it impossible to allocate rooms fairly.
Experience shows that the utilization of group rooms decreases significantly in the evening. - If training room H 2.19 is not occupied by an event, it may also be used (22 seats, 10 of which have computers).
Reading room—quiet study surrounded by books
In the reading room, you’ll be working right among the more than 48,000 freely accessible items that can be checked out.
Workstations
- 84 desk workstations, arranged in 12 rows of tables with power outlets and LAN connections
- 21 additional workstations at round tables
- 9 beanbag chairs (scattered throughout various corners of the library)
- 3 carrels (private study rooms)
Magazine corner - a cozy place to browse
Six reading chairs invite you to browse through the latest issues of daily newspapers or professional journals.
Right next door is the children’s nonfiction corner with 3 cube-shaped seats for our youngest visitors.
Comfort while studying and working
For use in the reading room and group study rooms, seat cushions are available next to the library counter to make sitting in our chairs for extended periods even more comfortable.
Fleece blankets are also available for the colder months.
Please return the cushions and blankets to the cart after use.
For ergonomic working, you can also borrow a standing desk or a balance seat cushion from the Aktivithek.
