Direct doctorate

Since February 2023, technical universities and universities of applied sciences have been able to apply to the Ministry of Science for the limited right to award doctorates in particularly research-intensive areas on the basis of the new Bavarian Higher Education Innovation Act. The applications received are evaluated by a review committee in a science-led process.

Following the announcement by the Bavarian Ministry of Science on October 4, 2023, the Technical University of Applied Sciences Augsburg (THA) now has a doctoral center for "Digital Technologies and their Application" (DigiTech).

On July 16, 2024, the doctoral center "Sustainable Intelligent Technologies for Resource-Optimized Production" (NITRO) was added.

This means that young scientists can now pursue their doctorates in these subject areas directly at the THA.

The doctoral centers complement the THA's existing research priorities, which are:

• and resource efficiency.
