Your studies will be funded, and you'll gain practical experience at the same time

In our Data Science (B.Sc.) with an in-depth practical component, “Work and Study,” at the Technical University of Applied Sciences Augsburg, the focus is on practical experience: The program allows you to actively participate in projects at a company while pursuing your degree. This way, you gain valuable professional experience while you’re still in school—and your tuition is even covered!

As a full-fledged member of a team, you’ll gain practical, specialized knowledge from your colleagues at the company, which you can directly apply to the theoretical fundamentals you learn in the classroom. You can contribute your strengths to the team and actively shape the work at the company.

You’ll also have the opportunity to explore various areas of work within the company, giving you a solid overview of the different roles data scientists play in projects by the time you graduate.

The Data Science “Work & Study” program, part of the bachelor program in Data Science (B.Sc.) at the Faculty of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the Technical University of Applied Sciences Augsburg (THA), will begin in the winter semester of 2022/2023. Classes and learning take place at THA in Augsburg, at the Technology Transfer Center (TTZ) for Data Science and Autonomous Systems in Landsberg am Lech, and directly at the participating companies.

After 3.5 years, you’ll have your data science degree and plenty of project experience to add to your resume! For more information on the program, visit Data Science (B.Sc.)

Together with your partner company, you’ll arrange your work schedule to suit both of you best—for example, during the summer break, on a fixed day each week, or a combination of both. This allows you to complete your data science degree at our university as usual while applying your knowledge directly in a real-world setting at the company.

This won’t extend the duration of your degree program, and you can even write your bachelor’s thesis in collaboration with your partner company.

Our goal is to provide you with a data science program that is both academically sound and professionally relevant—in other words, a dual program in the best sense of the term.

You’ll be studying at the heart of applied research. As a student in the bachelor program in Data Science (B.Sc.), you’ll be closely involved with the Technology Transfer Center (TTZ) for Data Science and Autonomous Systems in Landsberg am Lech. There, faculty and students from the Technical University of Applied Sciences Augsburg work together with interested companies from the region to develop innovative solutions for real-world business needs.

Don't worry. We've designed the program and the schedule in close collaboration with our partner companies so that lecture times at the university and practical training sessions at the company don't overlap. Many partner companies offer modern work models with a high degree of flexibility to accommodate this.

In addition to the opportunity to gain your first professional experience in the field of data science

  • you’ll earn money from day one throughout your entire course of study,
  • you’ll also be entitled to statutory vacation time at the company,
  • you may be able to increase your hours at the company during semester breaks
  • and you can take advantage of the flexible remote work and scheduling options offered by the companies.
  • Choose a company from our list of partners here.
  • If you know of a company that isn't on the list, ask them if they'd like to become a partner and have them contact us.

Then contact the program directors directly: Wolfgang Bischof and Caroline Justen will be happy to advise you and answer any questions you may have about studying with us!

Companies can have prospective professionals receive hands-on training through the “Work & Study” data science program at the Technology Transfer Center (TTZ) for Data Science and Autonomous Systems in Landsberg am Lech.

The “Work & Study” data science program, part of the bachelor program in Data Science (B.Sc.) offered by the Faculty of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the Technical University of Applied Sciences Augsburg (THA), launched in the winter semester of 2022/2023.

The Focus Is on Practical Experience
