JuniorMentoring—the mentoring program for first-semester female students

Our JuniorMentoring program is offered university-wide at THA during the winter semester for all faculties.
As part of the Bavaria-wide BayernMentoring network, it helps first-year students (mentees) get off to a successful start in college life.
Participation is free of charge.

Dear first-year female students,

Have you just been admitted to THA? Welcome to our university <3 !

You might be wondering: “Where should I go?”, “Where can I find things?”, “Who can I ask?”
Our Junior Mentoring Program is here to make your start as easy as possible.

A Junior Mentor (an upperclassman from your faculty) will guide you as your mentor for one semester.
She’ll help you with questions about things like the Campus Card, registering at the computer center, managing your studies, or even preparing for exams.

JuniorMentoring is part of the BayernMentoring program, which offers numerous seminars and activities.
By participating, you’ll be part of our community right from the start and automatically have access to these free offerings.

We look forward to a great time with you!

Best regards

Your team at the Women’s Office

Program Information

Junior Mentoring—What Is It?

Our Junior Mentoring program is part of the BayernMentoring initiative. Through this program, a first-semester student is supported by a student in a higher semester (at least 3 semesters)—the Junior Mentor—during her first weeks and months at the Technical University of Applied Sciences Augsburg. The Junior Mentor is expected to share her experiences, knowledge, tips, and tricks with the Junior Mentee and help her get started with her studies and adjust to life on campus.

Please note: This programme will be held in German

Tasks

  • Getting to Know the THA (How does it work? Where can I find ...?)
  • Study Tips + Support (How do I manage all this? What’s important?)
  • Sharing Experiences (How do I set my priorities?)
  • Getting to know Augsburg and the surrounding area (leisure, sports, going out)
  • Possibly helping to find internships or jobs (companies are usually always looking for new people) through our own contacts

Goals

  • Building networks (better connections among female students)
  • Studying more purposefully from the start
  • Time management during your studies
  • A point of contact who already has experience in the same field
  • Disseminating and sharing knowledge
  • Promoting teamwork

Procedure

When does the mentoring program start?

JuniorMentoring always starts in the winter semester. At the beginning of the semester, there’s a kickoff event where the mentoring pairs are formed. (See below for the date!)

Time Commitment

The time commitment should not exceed 4 hours per month. But of course, it depends on what a pair wants to do together.

Duration

The mentoring relationship can last as long as desired; the plan is for it to run for one semester.

Evaluation

At the end of each cycle, we’d like to know if the program was helpful. We’re especially interested in suggestions for improvement. For example, is there a particular course in the department that many students struggle with? Or are there other ways we can support you?

The Network

Participants automatically become part of the university-wide women’s network, KESS. This way, you’ll always be informed about opportunities to support women and can network with others.

Registration

The next session begins in the 2026–27 winter semester—the kickoff event will take place on Thursday, October 15, 2026, at 5:30 p.m.
