2,600 students are starting the 2026/207 winter semester

The new students were welcomed at a large orientation event on the Rotes Tor campus by University President Prof. Dr. Gordon Thomas Rohrmair, Prof. Dr. László Kovács, Vice President for Academic Affairs, AI, and Educational Innovation, and Thomas Berchtold from the Student Council. Afterward, they had the opportunity to explore various university facilities and student initiatives. In addition, the university library, the Office of Student Affairs—including the Central Academic Advising Office—and the Central IT Department presented their services.
Prof. Dr. Rohrmair said: “We are very pleased that so many young people have chosen to study at THA again this year. This is a tremendous vote of confidence in us as a university and reinforces our commitment to preparing our students as best as possible for their professional futures. The current economic and social situation is a source of uncertainty for many young people. Therefore, our goal is not only to offer our students an outstanding academic education but also to strengthen their self-confidence and courage and to support them in building a strong network.”
Addressing the first-semester students, Rohrmair said: “Our THA motto is ‘Together we shape the world.’ As of today, you are part of our university community and, as such, are warmly invited to bring this motto to life together with all other members of the university. Take advantage of the opportunities the THA offers you and contribute your perspectives and ideas.”
Long-time favorites and new favorites: the most popular degree programs
The majority of new students (about 1,940) are starting a bachelor’s degree program today. The bachelor’s degree programs with the most first-year students this year are Business Information Systems, Civil Engineering, and Business Administration. The programs that received the most applications were Business Psychology (817 applications), Social Work (769 applications), and International Information Systems (765 applications).
The orientation year also continues to be very popular: Around 170 students are starting their orientation year at THA. They now have two semesters to take courses from various faculties to help them find the program that’s right for them. In addition, they can take advantage of counseling services offered by the Central Student Counseling Office and learn about alternative career paths, such as vocational training.
Medical Technology, AI, and Robotics: First Cohort Launched
New additions to THA’s academic offerings this semester are the bachelor’s degree programs in “Medical Technology” and “Artificial Intelligence and Robotics”—both of which have been very well received by prospective students. The
Medical Technology program is launching its first cohort with nearly 90 first-semester students. The program is housed in the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and combines engineering expertise with medical fundamentals and applications. The program equips students to develop innovative technical solutions for diagnosis, therapy, and rehabilitation. To this end, THA has entered into a long-term educational partnership with the Hessing Foundation, one of the leading specialized orthopedic clinics. The foundation contributes its medical and clinical expertise to the students’ education, while the THA is responsible for the engineering content, curricular integration, and academic quality assurance.
The bachelor’s program in AI and Robotics at the School of Computer Science is launching with nearly 60 first-year students. The new program combines the fields of computer science, artificial intelligence, and robotics. The focus is on the development and application of intelligent systems. Students acquire the necessary skills to solve real-world problems, for example, using autonomous robots or data-driven applications.
Next application period in November
The application period for the summer semester of 2027 begins on December 1, 2026. Most of the degree programs offered at THA begin in the summer semester. Prospective students can find an overview of all available degree programs at:
