The Paths of Water. E2D Students Present Project Work at the Augsburg GIS Forum for Environmental Monitoring

During the summer semester of 2026, students in the Energy Efficiency Design program at the Technical University of Applied Sciences Augsburg developed ideas and designs to improve connectivity and accessibility among the 22 sites of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Selected projects were recently presented at the Augsburg GIS Forum for Environmental Monitoring (venue: IHK Schwaben).

Faculty Retreat 2026: Developing a Shared Vision for the Future

THA students illustrate books designed to help children better understand and cope with mental health challenges

Five new books on the topics of anorexia, mutism, tic disorders, stuttering, and obsessive-compulsive disorder have recently been published as part of the “Psychological Children’s Books” series by the Swiss publisher Hogrefe. They were illustrated by students in the bachelor program in Communication Design at the Faculty of Design at the Technical University of Applied Sciences Augsburg (THA) under the artistic direction of Professor Mike Loos.

A full house, great ideas, and a gaming premiere: That was the Funkenwerk Award 2026

More than 150 guests, seven student pitch teams, and plenty of entrepreneurial spirit: At the Funkenwerk Community Meetup on October 29, the campus became a hub for innovation, entrepreneurship, and gaming. The spotlight was on the students, who took their ideas to the big stage.

Funkenwerk Award 2026: THA and LEW Recognize the Best Startup Ideas from Bavarian-Swabian Universities

30 applications, seven finalist teams, and many innovative ideas with future potential: Technical University of Applied Sciences Augsburg recently honored outstanding startup projects from universities in Bavarian Swabia at the Funkenwerk Award 2026, powered by LEW. Bavaria’s Minister for Digital Affairs, Dr. Fabian Mehring, supported the competition as patron of the partnership between THA_funkenwerk and LEW.

Master's thesis lays groundwork for a more sustainable asphalt production process that now has been awarded by the EU and the State of Bavaria

To facilitate a shift in the asphalt mixing industry away from fossil fuels, Andreas Augustin highlighted the advantages of wood dust as a fuel in his 2021 master’s thesis—supervised by Prof. Dr. Florian Hörmann. In 2023, his research was incorporated into the conversion of the asphalt mixing plant operated by Schweiger Straßenbau GmbH in the Aichach-Friedberg area. For the successful use of wood dust in asphalt production, entrepreneur Christian Schweiger has now received two awards: one by the state of Bavaria and the other, together with his son, Leon Schweiger, by the EU.

Four presentations, four current perspectives on timber construction: In November 2026, four timber construction experts will share insights on structural systems, contracting, finishing, and fire safety at THA. Participation is free for students and trainees.

New professor of process engineering

Since the beginning of the winter term, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Johannes Haus has been teaching at the Faculty of Mechanical and Process Engineering. In his first semester, he is drawing on his industry experience in process and energy engineering at BASF to teach courses in sustainability management, measurement and control engineering, and process control engineering.
