THA Joins the Schlager Boom
Highlights from the Schlager Boom
Robotics in prime time: During the ARD Schlagerboom on Saturday, October 17, 2026, humanoid robots were put to use in front of a large audience. The Technical University of Applied Sciences Augsburg (THA) provided scientific expertise. Constantin Wanninger, a robotics expert at THA, advised the project and helped overcome the technical challenges.
The live deployment of a humanoid robot in a major television production places special demands on the technology. Approximately 14,000 cell phones in the audience, numerous cameras, radio links, and complex stage technology create an environment in which reliably controlling a robot is particularly challenging. In addition, during a live broadcast, all processes must be precisely coordinated.
Scientific Expertise for the Big Stage
Constantin Wanninger’s scientific consultation focused on the robotic and technical requirements of the live deployment. A key issue was how a humanoid robot could be reliably deployed and controlled under the specific conditions of a large-scale television production.
The appearance on “Schlagerboom” demonstrates how scientific expertise from applied research is put to use even outside of traditional research and industrial settings. The Technical University of Applied Sciences Augsburg is thus applying its expertise in robotics to an extraordinary practical setting and reaching an audience of millions.
