THA Welcomes International Students

Dominik Maas, Director of the THA International Office; Katharina Leuthmetzer, Incoming Exchange Coordinator; and Prof. Dr. László Kovács, Vice President for Academic Affairs, welcomed the exchange students last Thursday to kick off Welcome Week. In the days remaining until the official start of the semester on October 1, the incoming students will have the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the services offered by the university library, the computer center, and the Center for Languages and Intercultural Communication. They also receive assistance with organizational tasks and can participate in a “Survival German Language Course.” In addition, subject-specific introductory sessions are offered by the individual faculties. 

From the Campus Tour to the Welcome Party

As is tradition, the THA’s SWOP team is once again closely involved in organizing Welcome Week. SWOP stands for Student Welcome and Orientation Project—a group of students who volunteer throughout the semester to organize excursions and events for international students—ranging from a group visit to the Augsburg Plärrer to a hike around Neuschwanstein Castle. This year, during Welcome Week, the SWOP team is offering a campus tour, a city tour, a group visit to the Riegele brewery, a pub crawl, a bowling night, a scavenger hunt, a trip to Salzburg, and a big welcome party. In addition, the SWOP team will be available to answer questions from exchange students, especially during their first few weeks in Augsburg.

International Exchange as an Asset for THA

Katharina Leuthmetzer says: “International networking is a top priority for the THA. We are therefore very pleased that nearly 100 international students have chosen to spend a semester abroad at the THA this semester. We are confident that they will gain valuable experience and new perspectives during their time in Augsburg. At the same time, with their diverse backgrounds, they enrich our university community and contribute to a vibrant intercultural exchange at the THA. This benefits everyone involved.”
