Computer Engineering (B.Eng.)

A hands-on degree program in Computer Engineering combines programming, electronics, and embedded systems into a forward-looking, holistic approach. At the Technical University of Applied Sciences Augsburg, you’ll develop solutions to real-world technical challenges while collaborating early on with companies from the regional tech scene. Small learning groups facilitate in-depth discussion, individualized support, and a seamless transition between theory, lab work, and hands-on practice.
Course Content
The program is designed for all technology enthusiasts who not only want to program computers but also want to understand how they work in detail and develop them.
The program, redesigned in 2023, offers a flexible curriculum and optional areas of specialization. The focus is on hands-on learning through numerous interdisciplinary projects in the areas of technology transfer, research, and entrepreneurship.

- Semester:
You will learn essential fundamentals in the fields of electrical engineering (direct current) and computer science (the C programming language). You’ll also gain an understanding of how algorithms work and learn the fundamentals of physics and mathematics. Theoretical knowledge is illustrated through practical examples. - Semester:
You’ll deepen your knowledge in electrical engineering (alternating current) and expand your programming skills (object-oriented programming with C++). New and exciting topics such as data communication and digital technology also await you. - Semester:
In the “New Technologies” seminar, you’ll have the opportunity to explore current technological topics (e.g., in the fields of industrial automation or green IT). You’ll round out your foundational knowledge with courses in computer architecture, operating systems, and electronic circuits. - Semester:
In your first project, you’ll work in a team with fellow students to design and implement a solution for a specific problem. These projects are often carried out in collaboration with regional companies, offering you the chance to connect with potential future employers while you’re still in school. - Semester:
Practical relevance is a top priority at our university. You’ll therefore demonstrate your knowledge and experience in another project and refine your expertise in the areas of embedded systems and control engineering. - Semester:
You now have everything you need to complete an internship at a company of your choice. We’ll help you get in touch with companies (e.g., through our Pyramid corporate career fair). As part of a seminar, you’ll reflect on your experiences during the internship and exchange ideas with other students. - Semester:
Choose from a wide range of required electives to set your own learning goals and academic focus areas. You’ll successfully complete your degree with a bachelor’s thesis, either in collaboration with a company or directly at the university.
For Those Interested in Starting a Business
For anyone with a particular interest in innovation, startups, and entrepreneurship, there’s the Entrepreneurship Edition study plan. It includes recommendations for AWPs and FWPs, as well as exciting extracurricular events.

Dual-Track and Work-Integrated Study Programs

The Computer Engineering program can be pursued as a combined study program or as a program with an in-depth practical component:
In the combined study program, you study while completing an apprenticeship (leading to an IHK/HWK certificate) with a partner organization of your choice. You begin with a 3- or 3.5-year vocational training program at the industry partner, and after approximately 14 months, you start your first semester of study concurrently.
The program with in-depth practical training means that, during your academic studies, you’ll complete intensive practical phases at a partner company of your choice that go beyond the required internships—without, however, pursuing vocational training. You can begin your degree program first and then decide to pursue a subject-specific intensive practical phase in a later semester.
One variation of the program with in-depth practical training is the ICS model, which is offered in collaboration with the ICS Support Association within the Faculty of Computer Science. Under this model, the school nominates the top-performing students in each cohort for the program after the first few semesters.
