Course Content

The bachelor program in Electrical Enigneering and Information Technology equips students to independently apply scientific knowledge and methods in electrical enigneering and information technology and to quickly become familiar with one of the numerous fields of application. The goal of the program is to develop the ability to analyze, design, and implement complex systems in Electrical Enigneering and Information Technology within the framework of a structured approach. To this end, the program provides a balanced combination of fundamental and specialized knowledge reflecting the current state of the art, as well as methodological approaches.

Module Structure

The program is divided into an orientation phase (2 semesters), a foundational phase (1 semester), and an advanced phase (4 semesters). The latter includes a technical project, a practical study semester, and the thesis.

Steps

Time Period

1 of 3

1st and 2nd semesters

Orientation Phase

The orientation phase in the 1st and 2nd semesters covers the fundamental basics in the areas of

  • mathematics, including the application of modern tools
  • Information Technology
  • Electrical Engineering
  • physics, and materials science

In both the first and second semesters, an interdisciplinary module establishes connections between the various subject areas and highlights their practical applications.

2 of 3

3rd semester

Build-up phase

The foundational phase, comprising 30 CP, covers the 3rd semester and includes required modules that teach fundamental skills in Electrical Enigneering and Information Technology:

  • Systems Theory
  • Electrical Measurement Technology
  • Electronic Components and Circuits
  • Field Theory
  • Electromagnetic Compatibility

Similar to the orientation phase, students must take an interdisciplinary module.

3 of 3

4th through 7th semesters

In-Depth Study Phase

The specialization phase is designed to help students develop their individual academic profiles and consists of the following components:

  • Modules within a specialization
  • Technical Project Work
  • Practical study semester
  • Thesis, including the bachelor’s seminar
  • Elective modules

Choice of Major

To accommodate the wide range of career paths available to Electrical Enigneering and Information Technology engineers and to support students’ individual interests and inclinations, each student must choose one of the following specializations. For each specialization, there is a catalog of modules from which students can choose.

Automation and Robotics

Modern industrial production is often characterized by a high degree of automation and the extensive use of robots. In addition to traditional industrial robotics, however, collaborative robots are also becoming increasingly important in small and medium-sized enterprises, as are other robotic applications. This focus area therefore addresses the use of robotic systems in various contexts, with connections to applications in artificial intelligence and industrial image processing, control and regulation technology, and topics in manufacturing technology.

Career Prospects

Interaction with Electrical Enigneering and Information Technology systems is now ubiquitous in both our personal and professional lives. This bachelor program prepares graduates for careers in various fields of application, such as

  • Mobility
  • Smart and efficient manufacturing
  • Internet of Things

and in various professional roles, such as

  • product development
  • System integration
  • Project Management
  • Production Planning
  • service

in large corporations, medium-sized companies, startups, and research institutions. To this end, the program imparts methods and specialized knowledge from all key subfields of Electrical Enigneering and Information Technology. Students are equipped to analyze and address complex challenges in the field of Electrical Enigneering and Information Technology based on a solid foundation of specialized knowledge, to develop innovative solutions, and to implement these solutions in products. The program leads to a first professional academic degree. Upon successful completion of the program, the Technical University of Applied Sciences Augsburg confers the academic degree of Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.).

In addition, the bachelor program qualifies graduates to pursue a master program in Electrical Enigneering and Information Technology or related fields. Graduates of the bachelor program are able to

  • systematically develop innovative products,
  • simulate system behavior,
  • technically implement and document prototypes at various stages of development,
  • work in teams in a goal-oriented and responsible manner.

International

Go out!

The Faculty of Electrical Engineering supports its students in taking the plunge and studying abroad. A great option for this is:

  • a semester abroad
  • an industry internship
  • a project (during the break between semesters) or even
  • a thesis

To assist students in planning and carrying out study abroad programs, the faculty has an International Faculty Coordinator available as a point of contact. The Center for Languages and Intercultural Communication (ZSI) offers counseling and support across all faculties.

On campus!

But international and foreign language skills can also be acquired right here at the university. For example, some lectures are held in English.

The Center for Languages and Intercultural Communication offers numerous courses in its program that cover foreign languages and (inter)cultural knowledge.

For exchange students at THA

International first-year students can find support through the Buddy Program.
