Her outlook going forward
The quality and qualifications of employees are a decisive factor in a company’s success. Human resources are increasingly becoming a key resource. However, rising competition is forcing companies to use their resources sparingly, and they are relying on professional human resources management. The master program in Human Resources Management responds to these developments. Students gain the skills to work in all areas of human resources management.
The master program has been offered since 2010. In 2018, we analyzed the career paths of our graduates from the classes of 2010–2016:
Our graduates to date are primarily employed in the HR field—in large corporations, small and medium-sized businesses, and the healthcare sector. Typical entry-level positions include:
- HR Specialist
- HR Consultant
- Trainee
Some also start right after graduation as HR business partners or team leaders.
Your Application
Applications are accepted annually from May 2 through June 15. The program can only be started in the winter semester. Enrollment in the master’s program takes place at the Technical University of Applied Sciences Augsburg.
First come, first served:
We will process applications in the order they are received. Applicants who apply by the end of May will receive an invitation to a personal interview in June, provided they meet the admission requirements.
Thesis Paper:
One of the admission requirements for the Master’s in Human Resource Management is the submission of a thesis paper, which you must upload to the applicant portal along with the other documents. The topics will be published here in due course.
- A completed bachelor’s or diploma degree with a minimum grade of “Good.”
- Basic knowledge of business administration, which must be demonstrated by at least 30 ECTS credits in foundational business administration courses.
- Proof of sufficient practical work experience. This may include, for example, completed vocational training or a required supervised internship of at least 18 weeks during the first degree program.
- Prior experience in human resources (specialization modules, internship, bachelor’s thesis) is desirable and strongly recommended.
- A position paper on a current human resources policy issue must be submitted. The topics will be announced on the website shortly.
- During an interview (oral aptitude test), your motivation, your goals for the program, and your approach to real-world human resources challenges will be assessed.
The program begins each year in the winter semester. The application period runs from May 2 to June 15. The application process at THA is conducted online. All application documents must be uploaded by the end of the application period.
Our syllabus and examination regulations define a procedure for assessing program-specific suitability, in which your application materials are reviewed by the program’s admissions committee and evaluated using a predetermined scoring system. The score you achieve is a prerequisite for an invitation to the selection interview. For detailed information on the scoring system, please refer to Appendix 2 of the Study and Examination Regulations.
The Admissions Committee determines whether applicants meet the necessary qualification requirements during the application process. Please understand that preliminary reviews cannot be conducted.
To be admitted to the oral aptitude exam, you must have at least 45 points.
You can earn points, among other things, for successfully completed modules from your previous studies that are thematically related
to human resources management, internships or professional
experience in human resources, a bachelor’s thesis on human resources, and a research paper.

FAQ
If you have completed your studies but, for formal reasons, do not yet have a bachelor’s degree certificate at the time of application, you may still apply for a spot in the program. In this case, please submit a confirmation (grade report, transcript of records, etc.) from your registrar’s office that
1) the number of credits earned at the time of graduation (210 or 180),
2) the individual grades from the modules you have completed, and
3) your current grade point average.
If your bachelor’s degree certificate is not yet available by the time of enrollment, admission will be granted on the condition that you successfully complete your bachelor’s degree by the end of the year and submit the certificate within this timeframe.
If you have completed or will complete your first degree program with 180 ECTS credits, you will be admitted on the condition that you complete a so-called “supplementary qualification.” This means you must submit proof of 30 credits in relevant subjects within one year. Specific details regarding this supplementary qualification will not be finalized until the admissions committee grants admission.
A semester abroad is not a mandatory part of the Human Resource Management master program. However, you generally have the option to spend a semester abroad. Please note that this will typically extend the duration of your studies.
A theoretical semester can be completed at a partner university of the Augsburg, Kempten, or Landshut universities. Coursework completed abroad may be credited toward a subsequent degree (at the bachelor’s or master’s level). If a regular module is to be replaced or a course is to be recognized as a required elective, prior approval from the examination board is required. A prerequisite for this is that the corresponding module is offered at the master’s level. Before the start of the study abroad period, a Learning Agreement must also be prepared and approved by the International Coordinator and the program director.
