TexReKat – Textile Recycling Catalog

Grant Period: January 1, 2026–June 30, 2027

Project Description

Current Situation

The transformation of the textile industry toward truly circular systems requires transparent and reliable information about products, materials, and realistically achievable recycled content targets—yet this is precisely what has been lacking so far. Although numerous individual initiatives on design for recycling and the use of recycled materials already exist, a consolidated overview is still lacking. The EU Textile Strategy 2030 creates additional pressure to act.

Project Objectives

The TexReKat project team is developing the first scientifically sound, publicly accessible catalog of recyclable textile products. A key focus is on determining recyclate content that can be processed in a cost-effective and process-stable manner in the spinning mill. At the same time, a digital platform is being developed with a modular structure that allows the catalog to grow over the long term and be continuously updated.

Approach

To this end, the project team is compiling research data, industrial experience, and new test results, and documenting the resulting application limits for each product category in the catalog. Structured feedback mechanisms and the early involvement of the CirTex community ensure that the catalog remains up-to-date in terms of both technology and content even after the project ends.
