About the Lab
The Internet Technologies Lab is affiliated with the tha_net research group. Many of the group’s research projects are based here, and work on Internet protocol standardization also takes place here, as the group is active in the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF). Generally, the lab develops complex, networked systems that typically include their own software components.
The lab is equipped with various network components. In addition to the standard routers and switches, the lab also houses more exotic components, such as its own 5G network, which is available for experiments.
Furthermore, students can prepare here for certification courses offered by a well-known manufacturer of network components.

Areas of Application in Research, Teaching, and Knowledge Transfer
The lab is used:
- to develop and test complex, networked systems and prototypes. This includes, for example, the implementation of client/server applications, new Internet protocols, or specialized applications and protocols for systems with specific requirements, such as drones or industrial facilities.
- to train students in the configuration of network components such as routers, switches, and firewalls.
- to evaluate commercial network components for their performance and other characteristics.
- To conduct large-scale measurement campaigns regarding certain characteristics of the Internet.
