Design and Technology for the Jobs of the Future

In times of major social and technological upheaval, the future of work, community life, mobility, and communication is changing. Whether on the web, in the Internet of Things, in virtual reality, or in Industry 4.0, media and technologies are encountering us in a variety of ways as our environment becomes increasingly digitized.

In our renowned degree program, we provide the ideal preparation for young people who are passionate about design and technical craftsmanship. Students acquire design- and media-specific skills as well as fundamental work methods and procedures. Through numerous seminars and project-based assignments, students practice applying their specialized knowledge in real-world contexts. The unique interdisciplinary approach of the School of Design and the School of Computer Science ensures a well-rounded education in the fields of design and media informatics.

Many future-oriented fields require a high level of both technical and creative expertise. To ensure this the Faculty of Design and the Faculty of Computer Science collaborate very closely in an interdisciplinary manner and have developed customized courses for this degree program.

In addition to fundamental design and media technology skills, students acquire other important abilities, such as presentation skills, project management, and academic research. Through numerous seminars and project-based assignments, students practice applying their specialized knowledge in real-world contexts.

Applicant Profiles

The program is designed for creative and curious individuals who want to combine design and technology. Prerequisites include conceptual and design skills, an interest in digital technologies, analytical and logical thinking, and a passion for communication and teamwork.

Prior knowledge of software development or programming is not required, because the necessary fundamentals are taught during the program. What matters most is a willingness to grow both creatively and technically.

Course Content

The first two semesters provide a solid foundation in the areas of design and computer science.

In the third and fourth semesters, depending on your interests and preferences, you can focus your studies on modules in design or computer science. You can choose from various specializations:

  • 2D/3D Animation
  • Audiovisual Design
  • Game Design
  • Interaction Design
  • Interface Design
  • Physical Computing
  • Physical Interfaces
  • Game Programming
  • Web and App Programming

In the fifth semester, students may choose to complete either an internship or a semester abroad.

The highlight is a major team project in the sixth semester, in which students work largely independently on a comprehensive topic in the field of interactive media.

In the seventh semester, the program concludes with the completion of a bachelor’s project and a written bachelor’s thesis. In addition to the bachelor’s thesis, students receive targeted theoretical training to prepare them for their careers. Depending on the specialization, students are awarded either a “Bachelor of Arts” (B.A.) or a “Bachelor of Science” (B.Sc.) degree upon completion of the program.

Aptitude Test

You can submit a request for a re-evaluation to the examination board. However, this request will only be granted if you can provide valid reasons that are beyond your control and that you can substantiate.

Yes, that's possible. The aptitude exam demonstrates your aptitude for the program. A passing score on the entrance exam is valid for at least 24 months.

Yes, as a general rule, enrollment requires passing the aptitude test designated for the program, even if you are already studying elsewhere. The test includes a computer science and design section specific to the program, as well as a personal interview. We do not require applicants to have in-depth knowledge or skills, but we do expect a certain aptitude for and interest in technology and design.
