Create Your Own Website
Through the Data Center's personal web directory, all university members have the opportunity to create their own website.
1. Establish a connection via SFTP
Log in to the server using an SFTP client, such as WinSCP, with your personal data center ID.
Required connection details
- Transfer protocol: SFTP
- Hostname: login.rz.hs-augsburg.de
- Username: Your RZ ID
- Password: The password for your RZ ID

2. Open the web directory in WinSCP
After logging in, you must specify the path to your personal web directory in WinSCP.
To do this, enter the following path in the field for the remote directory: /www//
Replace <rz-id></rz-id> with your personal username.

3. Upload Website Files
Copy the files for your homepage to this directory: /www/. We recommend creating a home page with the filename index.htm or index.php.
This page will be displayed as the homepage when you visit www.hs-augsburg.de~<data-center-id>.</data-center-id>
Your web directory (= your data center ID) and the files and folders it contains must be accessible and readable by all users. You must set the appropriate permissions yourself using your SFTP client. In WinSCP, right-click the relevant objects and select Properties:

4. Access Control for Your Website
If you want only certain users to have access to your website, create an .htaccess file for access protection using the following examples:
Example 1: Authorization for users with a data center ID:
In the .htaccess file, after specifying “require ldap-user,” list the permitted RZ IDs separated by a space.

Example 2: Permissions for other users without a server ID (requires an additional .htpasswd file):
Please note the path specified in AuthUserFile /var/www/<data center ID>/.htpasswd
The corresponding .htpasswd file (e.g., username "katze"):

There are tools available online for generating an .htpasswd file with encrypted passwords.
The .htaccess and .htpasswd files are hidden system files. In WinSCP, you can display them by pressing the CTRL+ALT+H key combination.
