Programming numerical simulations in Geophysics with several computer languages (Algol, Pascal, Fortran, C) since the mid 70s.

Responsible for the datacommunications part in the german data center of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty of the United Nations at the Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources in the mid 80s.

Starting to use web programming with Perl and Python as head of a computing center at the University of Bayreuth in the mid 90s.

Since 2001 Professor for New Media and Internet Technologies at the University of Applied Sciences Augsburg, using Python as programming language and Jupyter Notebook in all courses.

In the self-administration of the university in different functions as dean, dean of studies, speaker of the dean of studies, member of the extended university board,  didactic mentor, member of the conflict commission, head of course, member and head of examination boards and scientific director of the cross-university project Digital and Regional some time ago, .

Initiator and representative of the partner university of fire brigades and aid organizations as well as initiator of study course Rescue Engineering.

University of Applied Sciences Augsburg’s HSA_transfer | Award 2020 was presented to Prof. Dr. Nik Klever in recognition of his social commitment to supporting universities, relief organizations and fire departments —specifically in his role as initiator and representative for the "Partner University for Fire Departments and Relief Organizations" initiative.

Preis für herausragende Lehre des Staatsministeriums für Wissenschaft und Kunst 2018

The initiators and teaching staff of the "Digital and Regional" project — and its "Systems Engineering" degree program — received the 2018 Preis für herausragende Lehre (Award for Outstanding Teaching) from the Bayerisches Staatsministerium für Wissenschaft und Kunst (Bavarian State Ministry of Science and the Arts) at the 2018 Forum der Lehre (Teaching Forum), in recognition of the program's innovative design.

Special Award "Bestes Maschinenhaus 2017" from VDMA

The "Systems Engineering" degree program received the special award for "Bestes Maschinenhaus 2017" (Best Mechanical Engineering House) due to its innovative design.

2nd Prize “Die helfende Hand 2015”

The "Partner University for Fire Departments and Relief Organizations" — a collaborative effort between the Augsburg City Firefighters' Association (Stadtfeuerwehrverband) and the Consortium of Augsburg Relief Organizations (Arbeitsgemeinschaft der Augsburger Hilfsorganisationen) — was awarded 2nd prize in the "Innovations and Concepts" category of the "The Helping Hand 2015" (Die helfende Hand) awards.
