3D Data Processing
M 2.01 - Generating, Processing, and Intuitively Capturing 3D Data
About the Lab
Three-dimensional data plays a central role in computer graphics, medicine, industrial quality control, robotics, autonomous driving, and manufacturing processes. In the lab, students process point clouds that they have generated themselves from real objects, or they use data that is freely available or provided by partner organizations. The hardware supports the implementation of both traditional and AI-based methods (deep learning), using open-source software. Using stereoscopic visualization techniques, students interact with raw data, models, and analysis results to intuitively grasp structures and identify outliers. In summary, the lab enables the practical application of the mathematical and algorithmic fundamentals covered in courses.
Room: M 2.01

Areas of Application in Research, Teaching, and Knowledge Transfer
The lab offers thesis projects, research projects, and internships on the following topics:
- 3D Data Processing
- Computer graphics
- Advanced Programming Techniques
- Medical image processing
The large rear-projection screen is not only suitable for the stereoscopic visualization of 3D data but also allows for group presentations of results.
As part of a long-term research collaboration with the Department of Conservative Dentistry, Periodontology, and Digital Dentistry at LMU, large µCT images are processed and the results are visualized interactively.
