Business Information Systems (M.Sc.)
Successfully shaping digital transformation requires expertise in computer science and a deep understanding of business processes. In the Business Information Systems master’s program at the Technical University of Applied Sciences Augsburg, you’ll develop both of these skills in a targeted manner. Throughout the program, you’ll work on real-world projects, learn collaboratively in small groups, and contribute your ideas through partnerships with companies in the regional tech and digital sectors. This allows you to combine in-depth academic study with valuable practical experience.
Course Content
The program fosters the ability to address complex issues and equips students to implement both business and information technology concepts.
In terms of content, the program is divided into four module tracks:
- Scientific Fundamentals:
Principles of scientific and team-oriented work, as well as the application of mathematical models for problem-solving. - Business Analysis and Modeling:
From the analysis and modeling of business processes through requirements engineering to digital business models and their representation. - Business Application Systems:
From the design and implementation of operational systems within the company to the processing and analysis of the resulting data as a basis for decision-making. - IT Management:
From the execution and management of individual projects in the IT environment to short- and long-term planning of the company-wide IT infrastructure.
The flexible structure of the modules allows you to pursue a self-directed part-time program. Courses are taught partly in German and partly in English.

Career as a Young Researcher
The research institutes based at the Faculty of Computer Science also offer interested individuals the opportunity to enter the world of research as a research assistant or staff member.
THA_innos (Institute for Innovative Security) works on behalf of companies and public funding agencies on topics related to IT security: from the development of secure products to forensic analyses and the securing of entire industrial facilities.
THA_ired (Institute for Resource-Efficient Data Transmission and Processing), comprising four research groups from the Faculties of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering, develops highly innovative solutions for the efficient processing of data in fields such as autonomous driving, image processing, artificial intelligence, radar technology, and embedded systems.
The THA_ias (Institute for Agile Software Development), in collaboration with partners from industry and research, develops innovative software solutions for digitalization projects. In doing so, it applies and further develops agile system development methods.
Admission Requirements
The admission requirement for this program is a bachelor’s degree in Information Systems completed with above-average grades at a university, or an equivalent university degree that typically takes 7 semesters (210 ECTS credits).
The selection of applicants is based on the grade point average (GPA) of the bachelor’s degree. Currently, the Technical University of Applied Sciences Augsburg requires a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Applicants with a GPA between 3.0 and 2.6 must complete an admissions interview.
Applicants with a bachelor’s degree who have earned fewer than 210 ECTS credits but at least 180 ECTS credits may also be admitted. They must earn the remaining credits needed to reach the required 210 ECTS through supplementary coursework within the first year after enrollment.
Graduates of a bachelor’s program in Information Systems may fulfill this requirement by taking elective courses from the Faculty of Computer Science’s catalog for bachelor’s programs or additional elective courses from the master’s program. For graduates of other degree programs, the Examination Board may alternatively specify individual courses that must be taken to fulfill the supplementary requirements. Courses that were already part of the student’s first degree program may not be taken.
The course offerings for the “Business Information Systems” program at the Faculty of Computer Science include German-language (required) courses. Exams are also administered in German. Proficiency in German at a minimum of level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) is therefore essential for successful completion of the program. If necessary, this proficiency must be demonstrated in advance by successfully passing one of the two tests: DSH-1 or TestDaF Level 3.

In order to verify the stated admission requirements, applicants must submit the “Preliminary Review Documentation” (VPD for short) from uni assist e.V. and proof of the scope of their prior studies converted into ECTS credits along with their application.
