Computer Science (B.Sc.)

Do you want to understand how software, apps, and digital systems really work—and help develop them yourself? In the Bachelor’s program in Computer Science at Technical University of Applied Sciences Augsburg, you’ll learn how ideas are turned into working programs. From the very beginning, you’ll work on real-world projects, program in small learning groups, and gain direct insight into the regional tech scene. This way, you’ll combine theory and practice and prepare step by step for your career in IT—with a hands-on computer science program right in the heart of Augsburg.
Course Content
In the Bachelor’s program in Computer Science, you’ll gain—step by step—the knowledge you need to understand and further develop modern IT systems. You’ll learn how software is created, how databases are structured, and how computer networks function. In short: you’ll discover what really makes the digital world tick behind the scenes.
To help you better understand the bigger picture, you’ll also delve into fields such as mathematics and statistics. There, you’ll learn methods for analyzing problems, developing models, and finding appropriate solutions—skills you’ll need later in any IT job.
Things get really hands-on in the fifth semester: You’ll spend an entire semester at a company working on real-world projects. Toward the end of your studies, you’ll also have the opportunity to specialize. You’ll have access to nearly 40 elective courses—ranging from 3D printing and IT security to network engineering, Python programming, and search engine optimization.
If you enjoy technology, like to think logically, and are both curious and creative, you have the ideal background for a successful and hands-on computer science program in Augsburg.

Dual-Track and Work-Integrated Study Programs

The Computer Science program can be pursued as a combined study program or as a program with an in-depth practical component:
In the combined study program, you study while completing an apprenticeship (leading to an IHK/HWK certification) with a partner organization of your choice. You begin with a 3- or 3.5-year vocational training program at the partner organization, and after approximately 14 months, you start your first semester of study concurrently.
The program with an in-depth practical component means that, during your academic studies, you’ll complete intensive practical phases with a partner organization of your choice that go beyond the required internships—without, however, pursuing vocational training. You can start your degree program first and then decide to pursue a subject-specific, intensive practical phase in a later semester.
One variation of the program with in-depth practical training is the ICS model, which is offered in collaboration with the ICS Support Association within the Department of Computer Science. In this model, the department nominates the top-performing students in each cohort for the program after the first few semesters.
