Information Systems (B.Sc.)

Are you interested in technology, digital solutions, and business contexts? In the Bachelor’s program Information Systems at the Technical University of Applied Sciences Augsburg, you’ll combine computer science with business administration and work on real-world projects right from the start. Small learning groups, personal interaction with faculty, and close collaboration with companies in the regional tech scene create the ideal conditions for applying your knowledge directly. This way, you’ll prepare yourself, step by step, for a wide range of roles in the digital economy.
Course Content
The two-semester orientation program provides foundational knowledge in business informatics, computer science, and business administration. Students gain knowledge of computer fundamentals, information systems, software development, the analysis of data structures, and accounting.
Starting in the third semester, students begin the specialization phase in the three academic areas. The curriculum now focuses on the implementation of business information systems, databases, and software engineering. Business administration expertise is expanded through knowledge in the areas of cost and performance accounting and marketing. In addition, students gain knowledge of IT management and legal fundamentals.
In the fourth semester, in addition to further specialization, students apply what they have learned in their first IT project, which they carry out as a group project either in Germany or abroad. Furthermore, students are given their first opportunity to exercise some autonomy by selecting a specialized elective course (FWP).
The fifth semester is also practice-oriented. As part of larger IT projects in companies, students have the opportunity to independently apply the know-how they have acquired in a real-world setting. This practical phase is supplemented by accompanying courses, which also ensure continued contact with the university.
During the final two semesters, students are primarily expected to select additional FWP modules based on their interests and future career goals and, ultimately, to write their bachelor’s thesis.

Dual-Track and Work-Integrated Study Programs

The Business Informatics program can be pursued as a combined study program or as a program with an in-depth practical component:
In the combined study program, you study while completing an apprenticeship (leading to an IHK/HWK certification) with a partner organization of your choice. You begin with a 3- or 3.5-year vocational training program at the partner organization, and after approximately 14 months, you start your first semester of study concurrently.
The program with an in-depth practical component means that, during your academic studies, you’ll complete intensive practical phases with a partner organization of your choice that go beyond the required internships—without, however, pursuing vocational training. You can start your degree program first and then decide to pursue a subject-specific, intensive practical phase in a later semester.
One variation of the program with in-depth practical training is the ICS model, which is offered in collaboration with the ICS Support Association within the Department of Computer Science. In this model, the department nominates the top-performing students in each cohort for the program after the first few semesters.

This diverse job profile includes, among other things, managing large, networked IT systems, application programming, system analysis, further development and maintenance of existing software systems, designing new applications, business process (re)engineering, planning and executing large IT projects, sales and training, as well as web design.

THA_innos (Institute for Innovative Security) works on behalf of companies and public funding agencies on topics related to IT security: from the development of secure products to forensic analyses and the securing of entire industrial facilities.
THA_ired (Institute for Resource-Efficient Data Transmission and Processing), comprising four research groups from the Faculties of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering, develops highly innovative solutions for the efficient processing of data in areas such as autonomous driving, image processing, artificial intelligence, radar technology, and embedded systems.
The THA_ias (Institute for Agile Software Development), in collaboration with partners from industry and research, develops innovative software solutions for digitalization projects. In doing so, it applies and further develops agile system development methods.
