Prof. Dr.- Ing. Jens Gattermann

Jens Gattermann was appointed to Augsburg University of Applied Sciences in the spring of 2013. As a professor of soil mechanics, foundation engineering, rock mechanics, special civil engineering, and tunnel construction, he teaches in the Civil Engineering (Bachelor’s), General Civil Engineering (Master’s with a focus on civil engineering and infrastructure), and Project Management (Master’s) programs.
After studying civil engineering from 1990 to 1995 at RWTH Aachen University and Imperial College London, he earned his diploma from RWTH Aachen University. Following his studies, he worked until 1999 as an assistant and later as a senior engineer/academic advisor at the Institute for Foundation Engineering, Soil Mechanics, and Rock Mechanics in Aachen. There, as part of his research, he earned his Ph.D. on a sealing structure made of highly compacted bentonite in the rock salt of the Morsleben final repository.
After completing his doctorate, Professor Gattermann initially spent several years in the construction industry, working as a site manager and later as an authorized signatory at an engineering firm. He successfully contributed to the planning, bidding, and construction management of numerous structures and large-scale projects, including in the role of chief site manager.
