The focus is on engaging teaching formats such as the inverted classroom and just-in-time teaching—supported by new teaching and learning spaces as well as digital and AI-powered tools, such as those for the automated generation of quiz questions in the Campus App. The implementation is being scientifically monitored: At the DMZ, dissertation projects are being developed and collaborations are underway with doctoral students from other departments to empirically investigate the effectiveness of these formats. Duration: Late 2025 through late 2031, with a planned extension option through 2033. About the KI-AUX Project gP cycle gP cycle Digital Innovations for Higher Education (2021–2025) The goal was to strengthen students’ academic skills in a sustainable way and to support faculty in further developing their teaching competencies. The project was funded by the Foundation for Innovation in Higher Education with a total of 3 million euros—selected from among 264 submissions. Many initiatives originating from gP cycle are still in use today: the Campus App, two media studios, the badge system, the SCALE-UP room in the P Building, a pool of teaching methods and materials, and the Special Interest Group on the Inverted Classroom. Duration: 2021 to 2025, completed—the results continue to have an impact. Media Studio Two professionally equipped studios with cameras, audio equipment, lighting, and video editing stations are available to faculty for the production of instructional videos, podcasts, and screencasts. Training sessions are held at regular intervals and upon request. Equipment for Loan University members can borrow cameras, tripods, microphones, headsets, spotlights, conference systems, and laptops with editing and screencasting software—subject to availability—and test them out at their leisure, from presentation kits to mini-whiteboards for group work. Production and Consulting We produce videos on learning strategies, engaging teaching methods, and the practical application of digital and hybrid tools. An on-site program for students in 10th grade and above The Faculties of Electrical Engineering and Mechanical and Process Engineering at the Technical University of Applied Sciences Augsburg (THA) would like to introduce high school students to the diverse fields in which engineers work. Our program, featuring interactive hands-on stations, is designed for high school students in 10th grade and above and can be held either at the students’ school or on campus at THA. It is well-suited, for example, as part of an extracurricular program for 11th-grade students or for career exploration in 12th grade. Yet their entire daily lives are interwoven with technical products. Our program aims to highlight this reality and raise students’ awareness of technical developments by showing how central engineers are to shaping our world. In doing so, we demonstrate the extent to which technology can contribute to the sustainable development of our society. Educational Goals The program aligns with the educational and instructional goals in the field of technology and physics at Bavarian schools. It enables students to recognize the breadth of technological developments and to explore their opportunities and risks. In the area of career orientation, students can learn about fields of work in engineering and experience how, by applying theory to practice, they can later contribute to shaping a sustainable world in their careers. Program and Schedule Introduction The students meet the professors and student ambassadors from the Faculties of Electrical Engineering and Mechanical and Process Engineering. After a brief introduction to the stations and the program schedule, the groups are randomly assigned to the first hands-on station. Duration: approx. 15 minutes Learning Objectives: To become familiar with the departments and stations/topics in engineering Experiencing Engineering At interactive stations, the class can explore and engage with various fields of engineering application in small groups (ideally with a maximum of 4 students per group). Each group has about 30 minutes per station to delve into the respective topic. The stations are designed as self-guided learning stations. Students can explore the content on their own using a presentation on a tablet. Short videos, activities, quizzes, and experiments/exhibits also encourage active interaction with objects from the fields of electrical engineering, Mechanical and Process Engineering. The professors and students on site are available to assist the groups at any time while they work through the stations. A time frame of a total of 4 school hours has proven effective, allowing students to explore at least 3 stations. At the stations, they also gather information that they will need for a quiz afterward. Time frame: ideally at least 90 minutes Learning objectives: Gain hands-on experience with fields of engineering and explore technical conceptsReflecting on the opportunities and risks of technical developmentsIdentifying and evaluating opportunities for sustainable development through engineering achievements Final quiz and Q&A session with students At the end of the event, there will be a brief overview of engineering topics and degree programs offered by the faculties. Afterward, the floor will be open for questions from the high school students. To help break the ice, this session will be led by students and supported by professors. Questions may be asked about engineering, the profession, the degree program, as well as the various stages of the event, etc. Duration: 30 minutes Learning objectives: Reflection on and evaluation of the preceding content through the students’ own questions Stations The following stations are currently available: Plastic Recycling At this station, students learn how plastic can be recycled. They also learn about the opportunities and challenges of recycling and become more aware of the problem of the growing waste crisis. Through hands-on activities, they identify types of plastic themselves and verify their classifications using a sensor. Model for Biodiesel Production In a series of reactors, students observe the various stages of transesterification from oil to biodiesel. By rotating a stirrer, they observe the different behaviors of the starting material, intermediate products, and final products. They also compare the viscosity of oil and biodiesel using a viscometer. At this station, they learn how transesterification works chemically, why it is necessary, and how biodiesel is produced on an industrial scale. Textile Recycling At this station, students learn to view textiles as one of the most pressing waste problems and, at the same time, as a major opportunity for a future circular economy. They follow the industrial textile processing steps from used textiles to new yarn and can use VR headsets to explore the Recycling Atelier, the world’s first model factory in the field of textile recycling. Senso Sticks At this station, students learn how engineering can contribute to inclusion and social participation. Under the motto “Mechatronics Helps People with Disabilities,” students in the mechatronics program develop various projects (e.g., games, musical instruments, and kitchen appliances). These projects are then made available to the Fritz-Felsenstein-Haus in Königsbrunn, a facility for people with physical and multiple disabilities. Students can try out the game “Senso Sticks” as an example and, in doing so, also learn about an example of technical product development. Teeodohra At this station, students learn how knowledge is imparted in the field of engineering. The “Teeodohra” project is an example from the field of embedded systems designed to introduce students to the world of IT through a programmable tea rabbit. Through small, hands-on tasks, the group can dive into programming themselves and learn not only what role “embedded systems” play in technical devices, as well as how engineers can support and help shape technical education and find potential career opportunities in pedagogy and teaching. Photovoltaic (PV) Demonstrator At this station, students learn how engineering and renewable energy are connected. By conducting experiments with the PV demonstrator, they develop an understanding of the power output of a photovoltaic module. In the experiment, two fans are operated—one mechanically (using a hand crank) by the group, and the other using the power generated by the PV module when exposed to sunlight. The power generated by the two methods can be compared not only visually and quantitatively, but also interactively: The differing strengths of the fans’ airflow help students visualize how much power was generated in each case. By covering the PV module or changing its tilt angle, various factors affecting power output can also be simulated. Water Analysis Water quality is a top priority in this country, and our tap water is considered one of the safest in the world. Through water sampling, students learn to recognize potential contaminants and other substances in the water and understand how they form. They independently test liquids for specified values using test strips and a water analyzer. Wind tunnel (can only be conducted with supervision at THA) Using a mobile wind tunnel, students gain hands-on experience with the principles of aerodynamics and can observe the effects of controlled airflow through interchangeable experimental setups. In addition to the complex field of aerodynamics, the program fosters an understanding of experimental setups and testing procedures in engineering. Optimizing Technology: Simulation and Experimentation Using Crane Construction as an Example At this station, students learn how engineers improve technical products and processes, making them more efficient and safer. In addition, they gain hands-on experience with simulation and experimentation—processes that engineers encounter both in their studies and in their careers. Using a crane as an example, the groups can make technology predictable and optimize it. The group can use an app to make changes to the design elements of a crane and simulate the effects on its safety. Afterward, the students can experimentally test these improvements and replicate them on a model. Robotics (can only be conducted with supervision at THA) In the robotics lab of the Faculty of Mechanical and Process Engineering, high school students learn how industrial robots move through space and how they are controlled and programmed. They get to control a robot online themselves and explore in a playful way which of its six axes they need to move—and how—to navigate to a specific point or perform a movement in space. In addition, they learn about so-called cobots, which enable human-machine interaction. In the RoboticsLab of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, students experience firsthand how modern cobots and mobile robots are controlled and used: They try out how people collaborate with robots without safety fences and explore how robotic arms can be guided directly through touch. They also learn how image processing is used in robotics—and how robots can be controlled, for example, using hand gestures. Sounds interesting? Could you provide me with details regarding the aptitude test for your Master’s program, including its format, topics covered, and any preparation guideline? Before proceeding with the uni-assist VPD process, I would like to clarify a few points regarding my eligibility. Does my current Bachelor’s degree and GPA meet the program’s academic requirements? I would like to apply for your Master’s program in Electrical Engineering, but have completed my Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. Can I apply with this specialization? What is the step-by-step procedure for international applicants to submit applications (directly via the university portal or through Uni-Assist)? Do I have to submit my language certificate to uni-assist? As per paragraph 3(1) of our Study and Examination regulations, "the qualification requirement for admission to the Electrical Engineering master's program is a university degree from a German university with an above-average grade (overall examination grade of 2.69 or better) with at least 210 credit points (CP) according to the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) in one of the degree programs Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, Mechatronics or Computer Engineering or an equivalent degree from a German or foreign university". Please note that applicants with foreign degrees must submit a VDP from uni-assist. For further information, please refer to our Application Information booklet. Please submit your language certificate directly to us, together with your online application. Regarding your university qualification, we only require the degree certificate as well as the final transcript and, if available, the diploma supplement. No, because they are irrelevant for the decision about admission. These documents only enlarge your application file unnecessarily and may result in a longer review process. You do not need to provide us with an ECTS conversion formula if your university cannot provide this themselves. However, please note that we require a VPD from uni-assist to evaluate your application. The "examinations to be credited" section is only relevant for Home students who would like to get credits from a previous study program transferred/accredited to a new study program. We are aware that de-registration certificates do not exist in every country, but for our administrative purposes it would be helpful if your former institution/university could provide a letter to confirm that you are no longer enrolled. We can confirm that for the Master's programs we require both, the VPD from uni-assist as well as the submission of your application through our application portal (including the submission of your VPD). Students who have not yet received their final certificate, can apply with their current transcript of records and would be expected to submit their final documents as soon as they are available. In such a case the admission offer remains conditional and failure to submit the final degree certificate and transcript of records by the deadline, set in the letter of admission, will invalidate the admission offer. You do not need a translation for English documents, but we would still require certified copies. If there isn't a separate upload section for university certificates, please upload all relevant certificates in the "university entrance qualification" area. Otherwise, the VPD, university certificate and transcript should be uploaded in the area for Bachelor degree certificates. From the winter semester 2023/24 onwards, the application process at Augsburg University of Applied Sciences is completely digital. The application form is filled out and submitted online and the required documents are uploaded in the online application portal. With the associated mobility grant, you’ll receive monthly financial support to cover your travel expenses (Deutschlandticket). The trip to Bergamo (travel and lodging) will be covered for you. The facilities referred to in § 1 are available to members of the Augsburg University of Applied Sciences for the purpose of fulfilling their duties in the areas of research, teaching, administration, education and continuing education, public relations, and the university’s external image, as well as for other duties described in Article 2 of the Bavarian Higher Education Act.Other individuals and institutions may be permitted to use these facilities. This generally requires a separate, written agreement.“Users” as defined by these guidelines include all individuals who have formal authorization to use the network, as well as individuals who gain access to the German Academic Network—for example, in administrative settings, at closed events, in projects, or at individual workstations—without formal authorization (whether based on a personal ID or group identifier). Authorization to use the facilities must be requested from the responsible system operator. Exceptions are services set up for anonymous access (e.g., information services).The application must include the following information: Applicant: Name, address, and, if applicable, student ID number, as well as affiliation with an organizational unit at the university of applied sciences;Purpose of use, e.g., research, education, administration;Systems for which authorization is being requested;A statement that the user acknowledges these guidelines and consents to the collection and processing of personal data in accordance with § 5. Consent may also be provided electronically, as the requirements of Art. 2 § 3(7) of the Information and Communication Services Act (IuKDG) are met;A notice that consent may be revoked at any time with future effect.The system operator may only request additional information to the extent that it is necessary to decide on the application.The responsible system operator decides on the application. The system operator may make the granting of user authorization contingent upon proof of certain knowledge regarding the use of the system.Authorization is granted within the limits of available capacity. It may be subject to a limit on computing time as well as other conditions and requirements.Authorization for use is generally granted for a period of 2 years, with the possibility of renewal. For professors, research staff, and non-research staff, authorization is automatically extended for an additional year without the need for an application, provided it is not revoked.The user ID is non-transferable. If the user discovers any misuse of their user ID, they must immediately notify the office that issued the user ID so that the ID can be blocked. Furthermore, the user is responsible for all actions taken by third parties if the user has enabled access by third parties through at least gross negligence.Once the authorized user has reported the unauthorized use by another party, they are no longer responsible for any further unauthorized use carried out with the user ID after that point in time.Authorization may be denied, revoked, or subsequently restricted, in particular ifno proper application has been submitted or the information provided is incorrect or no longer accurate, including, in particular, if the consent under paragraph 1 is revoked;the conditions for proper use of the facilities are not met or are no longer met;the authorized user has been barred from use;the proposed use is not compatible with the purposes set forth in § 2;the facility is unsuitable for the intended use or is reserved for specific purposes;the capacity of the facility for which use is requested is insufficient for the intended work due to existing utilization;the facility to be used is connected to a network that must meet specific data protection requirements, and there is no apparent objective reason for this request for access;it is to be expected that the requested use will unreasonably disrupt other authorized uses.The authorization to use the facility applies only to work related to the requested use.The authorization to use the facility is limited to work related to the requested use. Authorized users have the right to use the facilities, data processing equipment, and public software systems in accordance with their authorization under these guidelines, as well as to make use of the services offered by the academic departments or the Computer Center. Use for other purposes, in particular for commercial purposes, may be permitted only upon request and for a fee. Users are required tocomply with licensing provisions;comply with these guidelines, in particular to refrain from any action that disrupts the proper operation of the university’s facilities;provide proof of their authorization to use the systems upon request;immediately report any malfunctions, damage, or errors in computer systems and data storage media to the responsible staff;to follow the instructions of the staff in the computer rooms;to notify the department or the computer center prior to processing personal data and—without prejudice to the user’s own obligation to protect data—to observe and utilize the data protection and data security measures maintained by the department or the computer center;to back up their data and programs in such a way that no damage results from loss during processing in the department or the data center;to use the data networks only in accordance with the Terms of Use and to comply with the guidelines for the use of the data networks;ensure that no other person gains knowledge of their user ID;to work exclusively with the user IDs they are authorized to use, and to take precautions to prevent unauthorized third parties from accessing the information processing systems of Augsburg University of Applied Sciences;to protect access to the facilities with a password that must be kept confidential.The user is not authorized to copy and/or distribute software, documentation, and data—particularly those subject to licensing—unless expressly permitted, nor to use them for purposes other than those permitted, especially not for commercial purposes. Authorization to install software is governed separately depending on the respective local and technical system conditions. The user is prohibited from making any changes to the hardware installation or modifying the configuration of the operating systems, system files, or the network without the consent of the responsible system administrator. The user is prohibited from maintaining more than one remote access connection to the Augsburg University of Applied Sciences’ access points at the same time.The user is prohibited from accessing and/or using messages intended for other users.Violations may give rise to claims for damages.Please be advised of the following criminal offenses:Interception of data (Section 202a of the German Criminal Code (StGB))Unauthorized alteration, deletion, suppression, or rendering of data unusable (§ 303a StGB)Computer sabotage (Section 303b of the German Criminal Code (StGB)) and computer fraud (Section 263a of the German Criminal Code (StGB))The dissemination of propaganda materials from unconstitutional organizations (Section 86 of the German Criminal Code) or racist ideology (Section 130 of the German Criminal Code)the dissemination of certain forms of pornography online (Section 184(3) StGB)Accessing or possessing documents containing child pornography (Section 184(5) of the German Criminal Code (StGB))Offenses against personal dignity, such as insult or defamation (Sections 185 et seq. of the German Criminal Code (StGB)). Each system operator shall maintain documentation regarding the user authorizations granted. The records must generally be retained for two years after the authorization expires.The system operator has the right to prevent or detect misuse in an appropriate manner, particularly through random checks. To this end, the system operator is specifically authorized to:document and analyze user activities to the extent that this serves the purposes of billing, resource planning, monitoring operations, or investigating errors and violations of these guidelines and statutory provisions.If, as a result of measures taken under subparagraph (a), there is compelling evidence of misuse, access may be temporarily suspended or revoked following a prior hearing with the user. Once the facts of the matter have been sufficiently clarified, the suspension may be lifted or access reinstated.If the suspicion under subparagraph (b) is not unequivocally dispelled, in the event of repeated violations of these guidelines—to the extent that such violations may lead to serious disruptions of operations—or in the event of renewed, well-founded suspicion of criminal acts (German Criminal Code [StGB] and others), in compliance with the dual-control principle and the record-keeping requirement, user data may be accessed, or the user’s network usage may be logged in detail and in real time, without prior notice to the user, if this is unavoidable to maintain proper operations or, in the event of suspected misuse, to prevent such misuse.in cases of strong suspicion of criminal acts—if necessary—to take measures to preserve evidence.The user must be notified immediately after a measure under subsections 2(c) and (d) has been implemented, provided that this does not frustrate the purpose of the measure or unduly impede its implementation.For measures under paragraph 2(c) taken against members pursuant to Art. 17, paragraph 1, no. 2, 4, 5, 8, 9, and 10 of the Bavarian Higher Education Act (BayHSchG), the approval of the President is required; for members under Art. 17, para. 1, no. 6 of the Bavarian Higher Education Act (BayHSchG), the approval of the Chancellor is required, in each case together with the responsible dean or head of a central institution.For members pursuant to Art. 17, para. 1, no. 7 of the Bavarian Higher Education Act (BayHSchG) (students), the approval of the Chancellor and the responsible system operator is required.If a measure under paragraph 2(c) is to be implemented with respect to members under Article 17(1)(6) of the Bavarian Higher Education Act (BayHSchG), the staff council must be consulted.The system operator is obligated to maintain confidentiality. Individuals who violate these guidelines or commit criminal acts may be temporarily or permanently barred from use, unless restrictions on use are proportionate to the violation and can prevent further misuse. Such exclusion does not affect the user’s obligations arising from the user agreement. The university’s claim to the agreed-upon fee remains in effect. The user is not entitled to claims for damages based on the exclusion.The university reserves the right to withdraw from a user agreement, in whole or in part, if the user’s admission is revoked or restricted. In such cases, the university is not obligated to pay compensation.Administrative measures under the Bavarian Higher Education Act (BayHSchG) as well as disciplinary measures remain unaffected by this.The university reserves the right to take criminal and/or civil legal action. Teaching operations take top priority. Requests from internal users (members of the university) are processed before those from external users. The services provided by the University of Applied Sciences are provided to internal users as defined in § 2(1)—insofar as they are basic services—without charge. For external users as defined in § 2(1), the university may charge fees equal to the operating costs; for other users (§ 2(2)), fees equal to the full costs may be charged.Full costs comprise the total costs of operating the system. They include personnel costs, material costs, depreciation, and overhead costs. The University of Applied Sciences does not guarantee that the system will operate error-free and without interruption. The University of Applied Sciences cannot guarantee the integrity and confidentiality of the data stored with it.The University of Applied Sciences assumes no responsibility for the accuracy of programs, even if they were written by a University of Applied Sciences employee, and is not liable for damages or incorrect results arising from technical malfunctions or defective equipment, unless the damage is due to intentional or grossly negligent conduct on the part of an employee or an agent of the University of Applied Sciences.Persons who unlawfully use the University’s computer facilities without instruction or permission are liable for all damages they cause.The user is liable for all damages caused in connection with the use of the computer labs. This applies in particular to damages caused by failure to comply with the user’s obligations, by providing false information regarding the type of use and consumption, and by the unauthorized use of another person’s identification, protected data, or protected programs. Compensation for damages must be paid in cash. The user is obligated to indemnify the university against any claims for damages by third parties. The provisions of data protection laws apply accordingly. Fees for the use of information processing systems may be established in separate regulations.For certain systems, supplementary or different rules of use may be established as needed.
