The Master’s programme in Civil Engineering deepens your technical expertise and prepares you for complex challenges in planning, construction, and management. The curriculum focuses on forward-looking topics in infrastructure, sustainability, environmental engineering, and structural design. You also have the opportunity to specialise in structural engineering subjects, which is formally reflected in your degree certificate.
You will work on advanced technical challenges and develop solutions for the planning, construction, operation, maintenance, and further development of buildings and infrastructure. By combining academic depth with practical application, the programme prepares you for positions of responsibility and leadership in the construction industry.
The programme can be completed on a part-time basis over five semesters. You can see what this might look like in the diagram (example). You can create your own individual study plan and decide which modules to take and when, based on the course schedule. This flexibility makes it ideal for combining study with professional work.
Our part-time model is highly flexible and can also be completed in a shorter period, for example in as little as three semesters.

In the Master’s programme, you will deepen the knowledge and skills acquired during your Bachelor’s studies while addressing the challenges of modern civil engineering across a range of specialist fields:

Practice-oriented projects and academic research strengthen your ability to independently analyse engineering challenges and develop innovative solutions. A range of elective modules allows you to tailor the programme to your individual interests and professional goals.

It is also a valuable period for personal and professional development: you will work more independently, take on more complex projects, and further strengthen your skills and expertise.
A Master’s degree opens up a wide range of opportunities:
- Strong and continuing demand for experts in infrastructure engineering
- Access to positions with greater responsibility and leadership potential
- A prerequisite for registration as a Consulting Engineer with the Chambers of Engineers
- A prerequisite for entry into the fourth qualification level of public-sector technical construction administration (e.g. department leadership roles)

FAQ
Yes. Our part-time study option allows you to combine your degree with professional employment. You can find more information under the section above. When planning your schedule, consider carefully how many days per week you would like to work, as you will typically need two to three days per week for your studies.
Yes. If you only have a few examinations remaining to complete your Bachelor's degree, you can still apply and begin the Master's programme. You will have up to one year to complete your Bachelor's degree alongside your Master's studies. In this case, we recommend our part-time study option.
Yes. Applications are reviewed on an individual basis as part of the admissions process. In general, degrees in Architecture, Energy Efficient Planning and Building (E2D), or Digital.Design and Production are not considered sufficiently related, as they do not provide some of the core knowledge and skills required for our Master’s programme. A degree in a related field, such as Industrial Engineering with a specialisation in Construction, may be considered eligible.
Yes, in most cases. However, you will be required to complete additional modules from our Bachelor’s programme in Civil Engineering amounting to approximately 30 ECTS credits. In this case, we recommend our part-time study option.
