Short Biography
Dr.-Ing. Nayab Bushra is a professor at the Technical University of Applied Sciences Augsburg. She is an expert in the digital transformation of the construction industry and has many years of experience in both academia and professional practice. Her interdisciplinary expertise combines Civil Engineering, systems thinking, sustainable building design, parametric and generative design methods, energy simulation, data science, artificial intelligence (AI), and extended reality technologies—including virtual, augmented, and mixed reality—with modern digital tools and methods.
She views digitalization as a transformative force in engineering that not only fosters individual creativity through computer-aided tools but, above all, enables integrated and interdisciplinary work.
She earned her Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from the Technical University of Berlin. In her dissertation, she developed generative design frameworks to support the early planning phases of sustainable buildings and smart cities—with a particular focus on integrating solar technologies into building design. Her research has been published in high-impact journals, including *Energy*, *Applied Energy*, and *Renewable and Sustainable Energy Reviews*.
As a professor at THA, she teaches advanced topics such as artificial intelligence, sustainable parametric urban design, Building Information Modeling (BIM), XR-supported architectural design, simulation in the built environment, and integrated modeling and analysis of energy systems. She supervises student projects focusing on sustainability, simulation, and new digital technologies in the AEC sector (Architecture, Engineering, Construction).
Previously, she taught interdisciplinary bachelor’s and master’s courses at the Technical University of Berlin and played a key role in the design and coordination of an international master’s program that emphasized interdisciplinary and intercultural education. In addition to her academic work, she brings practical experience from International Business Machines (IBM) and several German research institutions.
Prof. Bushra also serves as a reviewer for academic journals and mentors students at the intersection of engineering, sustainability, and digital innovation. Her vision is to accelerate the digital transformation of the construction industry by training engineers with the necessary skills and a collaborative mindset to design sustainable, smart, and integrated built environments.
