How much does it cost to study in Augsburg?
Below you'll find some information about the costs you can expect when you come to Germany to study and live here.
Studiengebühren
Aktuell verlangt die Technische Hochschule Augsburg keine zusätzlichen Studiengebühren von Studierenden aus Drittstaaten. Lediglich die Semestergebühr muss für jedes Semester gezahlt werden.
Monthly Costs
The cost of living ranges from 1,000 to 1,300 € per month. Of course, this amount is only a rough estimate. Your actual expenses will depend on the amount of your rent and your spending habits.
The costs break down as follows:

* Please note that due to the proximity to Munich, rent for private apartments can often be higher.
To get off to a good start in Germany, it’s important to plan your living expenses realistically in advance.
In the first month after your arrival, you’ll often have to expect higher costs, such as
- the security deposit for your apartment (up to three months’ rent),
- everyday essentials (e.g., clothing, dishes, furniture, electronics),
- bus and train fares until you receive your CampusCard and can use it as a transit pass.
It may take some time to find affordable places to shop and to plan your expenses.
Sperrkonto und Anmeldung
Das Sperrkonto benötigst du, um überhaupt ein Visum für Deutschland zu erhalten. Er dient als Nachweis, dass dein Lebensunterhalt in Deutschland gesichert ist. Die Kosten belaufen sich auf ca. 12.000 € für einen Aufenthalt für ein Jahr.

In der Regel wird aus dem Sperrkonto monatlich ein gewisser Betrag an dich ausgezahlt. Dafür benötigst du ein lokales Bankkonto. Diese Bankkonto kannst du erst mit einer deutschen Steuer-ID eröffnen, die du ca. 2 Wochen nach der Wohnungsanmeldung in der Stadt Augsburg erhältst.
Es sind daher 2 Faktoren für die Auszahlung wichtig:
- Wohnort
- Termin zur Anmeldung
Plane daher ein, genügend Bargeld mitzunehmen (ca. 4.500 €), um die ersten 3 Monate gut abdecken zu können.
Looking for an Apartment
Your admission to a degree program at THA does not mean that you will automatically be assigned a room in a student residence hall. You must apply for a room yourself, and it can often take several semesters for a room to become available.
Therefore, plan on having to rent private housing or a room in a shared apartment at first. These are usually a bit more expensive than a dorm room.
