Creative Projects in Computer Science at Girls’ Day 2026

Under the title “This Is How Creative Computer Scientists Work,” 20 female students from Augsburg and the surrounding area got a taste of college life on April 22, 2026. Through 3D printing and programming with LEGO SPIKE, the students were able to demonstrate their creativity.

On Girls’ Day 2026, the Faculty of Computer Science organized activities that included designing a pencil holder and programming a mandala-drawing tool. After an introduction to computer science and computer science studies by Prof. Alexandra Teynor, the students immediately began designing their own personal pencil holders. With support from Melina Buchschuster, who organized and led Girls’ Day in Computer Science in collaboration with Christine Greve, as well as two student assistants from the Systems Engineering program, all participants successfully turned their ideas into printable models. After a break in the sun, the students got to build and program an automatic mandala painter using LEGO Education SPIKE sets.

“What I found particularly wonderful was that most of the students had little to no experience with 3D printing or programming, but went home at the end of the morning with a sense of accomplishment. By the end, the participants had all grown a few centimeters,” said Melina Buchschuster, summarizing the event.
