Program Profile and Content

Do you enjoy mathematics, statistics, programming, communication, and data visualization? Are you interested in solving problems and analyzing large amounts of data?

The Data Science program at the Technical University of Applied Sciences Augsburg prepares you to analyze complex data. Using methods from mathematics, computer science, and project management, you’ll create a clear basis for decision-making for stakeholders in companies and organizations. Thanks to your multidisciplinary skill set, you’ll serve as a key liaison across all areas of a company. Our program offers a strong practical focus and intensive support from our faculty team in small learning groups.

Is the Data Science program also offered as a dual program?

Would you like to combine theory and practice? In our dual-track Work and Study Program, you’ll gain professional experience at a company while you’re still in school and apply your knowledge directly to real-world projects. We’d be happy to advise you on the options available in the Data Science program.

Although we do not offer a dual degree program for accreditation purposes, our Work and Study Program likely meets exactly what you’d expect from a dual degree program.

Career prospects for data scientists are excellent now and will remain so in the coming years. The job market is in high demand for highly qualified professionals who

  • have a solid foundation in mathematics and statistics,
  • can use software to collect, process, and analyze data, and have a firm grasp of both the fundamentals and the practical application of machine learning and statistical learning methods.

Our graduates can work as data scientists, business analysts, or data analysts in nearly all industries and many areas of business—for example, in consulting, auditing, market research, manufacturing, insurance, banking, and IT companies, as well as in the public sector and applied research.

Our program is actively networked with regional companies operating in various industries (data science, IT, insurance, management consulting, the internet, and mechanical engineering). Actuarial Training Following College Graduation

Actuaries analyze risks and develop data-driven models for insurance and financial companies.

You’ll acquire the necessary skills in statistics, mathematics, and data analysis during your bachelor program in Data Science. Through our partnership with the German Actuarial Association (DAV), selected coursework can be credited toward the “DAV Actuary” certification. This allows you to lay a solid foundation for a career in risk and financial management while you’re still in school.

If you want to find out whether your expectations and ours regarding the data science program align, take this self-assessment.

Formal requirements:

High school diploma
or equivalent; proof of German language proficiency (DSF or TestDaF) if required

Data Science (B.Sc.) is a program with no minimum admission requirements, and you can enroll through the Augsburg University of Applied Sciences application portal (application period: May 2–July 15).

Please apply even if you do not yet have your high school diploma. The deadline for submitting your high school diploma (HZB) is August 31. Please upload your high school diploma to the HISinOne application portal as soon as you receive it.

In general, you can transfer to Augsburg University of Applied Sciences starting in the second semester and at any time thereafter. However, the best time to transfer also depends on your specific semester.
