Your Path into the World of Construction

The Bachelor's degree programme in Civil Engineering provides students with the professional qualifications needed to plan, design, and deliver infrastructure and building projects, including buildings, roads, and bridges. The programme combines a strong foundation in engineering theory with practical, application-oriented learning. Key areas of study include structural design, construction materials, sustainability, and digital planning methods. Through project-based work and hands-on assignments, students learn to tackle complex engineering challenges collaboratively and develop excellent career prospects in engineering design, construction management, and project development.

 

 

 

Curriculum

During the first semesters, students acquire a solid foundation in mathematics, engineering sciences, and construction. They learn how structures are planned, analysed, and built, while developing core competencies in subjects such as mathematics, structural analysis, construction, and building materials.

As the programme progresses, students expand their knowledge in key areas that provide a strong basis for professional practice:

A practical semester or a semester abroad provides valuable insights into professional practice and the real-world application of academic knowledge. In the final semesters, students deepen their expertise and complete their studies with a Bachelor's thesis.

Of course, this degree programme can also be studied as a Cooperative Study Programme or a Study Programme with Extended Practical Experience. These models combine academic study and practical experience in a way that benefits both students and partner companies.

At Augsburg University of Applied Sciences, there are two main options: alongside your studies, you can either complete a vocational qualification (Cooperative Study Programme, e.g. as a bricklayer or carpenter) or gain extended professional experience in engineering practice (Study Programme with Extended Practical Experience, e.g. with a construction company or engineering consultancy). Your Career Prospects

Civil engineers are needed wherever buildings and infrastructure are planned, designed, and constructed. They calculate, design, and develop residential buildings, industrial facilities, concert halls, stadiums, high-rise buildings, towers, bridges, tunnels, transportation networks, and water supply and wastewater systems. At the same time, they ensure that construction projects are delivered safely and sustainably. Topics such as economic efficiency, digitalisation, and resource-conscious construction open up a wide range of exciting career paths.

Thanks to the broad education provided by the programme, graduates can pursue a variety of careers, from planning and design to construction and the management of complex projects. Graduates work in engineering and consulting firms, construction companies, and public institutions, for example as:

Admission Requirements

To give you an insight into everyday life on a construction site, the programme includes a mandatory practical internship, during which you work as part of a construction crew. The internship lasts 12 weeks and can be completed during the semester break up to the end of the third semester. It must be undertaken with a training company registered with either the Chamber of Crafts or the Chamber of Industry and Commerce.

FAQ

This is assessed individually after successful enrolment at our university and, based on experience, is only possible in a very limited number of cases.

Recognition towards the preliminary internship is generally possible. The more closely your professional experience is related to civil engineering or the construction trades, the more of the required internship period may be recognised.

Recognition towards the practical semester, however, is only possible in exceptional cases. The decision is made after your successful enrolment at our university.

I will receive my Abitur certificate only after the official application deadline. Should I submit my most recent school report or provide my Abitur certificate at a later date?

Both. For your application, your most recent school report is sufficient. However, proof of your university entrance qualification (Abitur certificate) must be submitted before enrolment and can be provided within the specified deadlines. If you have any questions about submitting documents at a later date, please contact the Student Affairs Office at studienangelegenheiten(at)tha.de

If I want to study Civil Engineering (B.Eng.), do I also have to register on Hochschulstart.de?

No. Since the bachelor program in Civil Engineering is not subject to admission restrictions based on a Numerus Clausus (NC), registration with Hochschulstart.de is not required.

It is important that you have not already definitively failed a Bachelor's programme in Civil Engineering. If this is not the case, modules you have successfully completed may be recognised, provided that the scope (ECTS credits) and the competencies acquired are comparable. The recognition process is carried out after your successful enrolment at the university.
