What is GigaMove?

We’ve all been there: You want to send a print template, software packages, a photo archive, or other large data sets. Email attachments are usually not large enough for data of this size, and sharing via an FTP server or other services is often inconvenient or sometimes requires the installation of additional software.

The solution to this problem is provided by the Gigamove web application from RWTH Aachen University.

How do I use Gigamove?

All you need is a modern browser. Go to the website https://gigamove.rwth-aachen.de/de and log in using your login credentials (the same ones you use at Augsburg University of Applied Sciences). During login, your email address, first and last name, and user ID are transmitted.

After that, you can exchange data with any contact in two ways (the contact does not have to belong to an institution organized within the DFN-AAI).

• You provide data: Gigamove generates a link through which your partner can retrieve the data
• You request data: Gigamove generates a link through which your partner can make the data available to you

If you provide your partner’s email address, the link for the data exchange will be automatically sent to that address. Optionally, you can be notified as soon as one of your links has been used.

Unlike data exchange via email, data volumes of up to 100 GB can be exchanged over a secure connection. In the current pilot phase, each user can upload a total of up to 1,000 GB of data, which will then be available for download for a maximum of two weeks.
